An elderly woman was misled into signing a contract by a dishonest repair shop and would have been forced to pay thousands of dollars under a contract stipulation she was unaware of. Thankfully, our Pro Bono Project connected her to Francisco Morales, whose strong legal representation was able to get the vulnerable senior's predatory loan fully discharged! Since his first pro bono case in 2023, Francisco of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck has taken on 13 pro bono matters involving immigration, guardianship, family law, and consumer rights. He's changed the life trajectories of so many clients through his unyielding passion for pro bono, and we were happy to honor this alumnus of the William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada-Las Vegas as our April Volunteer of the Month!

Over 360 people signed up for our National Law Day Ask-A-Lawyer event last week! We're glad to have helped so many and grateful to all our community partners who continue to lend their invaluable skills.

Please congratulate Alyssa Pointer on slaying her supervised practice requirement! Alyssa joined Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada last semester to work in our Family Justice Project, helping real Legal Aid Center clients with real legal issues. Not only did Alyssa do terrific work - under the supervision of our own stellar April Green and Susan Noyce - she also completed her supervised practice requirement, bringing her ONE STEP CLOSER to becoming a Nevada attorney! And even better news (well, maybe from our perspective), Alyssa is staying with us for summer semester! We ❤️ our law clerks! Way to go, Alyssa! Federal and state laws protect tenants who need support animals or service animals, as Nicholas Haley of our Consumer Rights Project explains in a recent article for the State Bar of Nevada's Nevada Lawyer magazine. If an animal is legally recognized as an assistance animal, no part of a property's standard pet policy applies—including the requirement to pay an additional deposit or pet rent.
