Since 1933, supporting educators has been part of our story. Today, that commitment continues through our Roots in Education grant program, awarding 25 teachers with $1,000 each to invest in their classrooms and students. In 1933, schoolteacher Lloyd Hutt and 13 fellow educators pooled their money during the Great Depression to create Grand Rapids Teachers Credit Union right out of his home. Their goal was simple: help each other navigate a difficult time. More than 90 years later, that same spirit is still at the heart of who we are. From funding classrooms through our Roots in Education grant to supporting future educators with our Teacher Pathway Scholarship, we’re proud to continue investing in those who shape our communities every day.

Educators have always been at the heart of who we are. Formerly known as Grand Rapids Teachers Credit Union, LMCU continues its commitment to supporting future educators. This video looks back at last year’s Teacher Pathway Scholarship moments, when Kent County Technical Center Teacher Academy seniors were surprised with $3,000 scholarships to support their education degrees. And the work continues. This year, through our partnership with Kent ISD, we’re proud to keep strengthening the pipeline of future teachers by supporting programs like this.
