Healing Happens Here. As we mark National Hospital Week, May 10–16, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the extraordinary work of every person working in our hospitals — in both clinical and nonclinical roles — and for the skill and compassion you show every day. You are saving lives and helping our communities thrive. Thank you.

Happy Nurses Week. Meet Johns Hopkins Children's Center nurse, Colby. “To label nursing as ‘just a job’ feels inadequate. Describing it as ‘a calling’ sounds a bit too heroic. So, what do we call it? Truthfully, it does not matter. What we call it is not the important part. What matters is the action behind it. We are the stay-up-all-nighters who hold your hand when you need comfort. We are greeters who, despite having only just met you, you can trust to fight for your life as if it were our own. We are cheerleaders who put on a parade to watch you return home. With that, it makes it worth every minute of being a nurse.”

May is Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month. NF affects 1 in 2,000 people, and from May 1–28, the Billings Building dome will glow blue and green in recognition. At the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Neurofibromatosis Center, we’re proud to partner with patients, families, clinicians, and researchers to deliver exceptional care today and drive progress toward tomorrow’s cures.

Electrical engineer David Nelson, who has managed the colorful lights of the iconic Johns Hopkins Hospital dome since 2018, will retire later this year. In addition to upgrading the dome to energy-efficient LED lighting that can be programmed remotely, Nelson’s electrical and lighting designs have shaped the Sheikh Zayed Tower, the Johns Hopkins biocontainment unit, operating rooms and executive suites. https://bit.ly/3P1YZtI

Thank you to everyone who supported the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event this past Saturday at Green Spring Station, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, Sibley Memorial Hospital, and Suburban Hospital. We collected 1,525 pounds of medication from 412 community members, and disposed of it in a safe, environmentally friendly way. #JHDrugTakeBackDay

The Johns Hopkins Hospital proudly celebrates Patient Experience Week — a time to recognize the people, partnerships, and everyday moments that shape the care we provide to patients and families. This year’s theme, “You Complete the Puzzle,” highlights a simple but powerful truth: Exceptional care happens when every person plays a part.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital is proud to celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week! We are incredibly grateful for our volunteers, 837 of whom spent over 58,000 hours supporting our patients, families and staff last year. To honor our volunteers, we created this handmade paper flower mural – each flower displays the name of one of our active volunteers. Learn more about how to volunteer at JHH. https://lnkd.in/e9jms7ge
