Front-end PVR is showing signs of stabilizing: Q1 2026 marked the first time in years that front-end PVR increased three straight months in a row. Now, to be fair, YOY front-end PVR is still down, and plenty of dealers will say the market feels competitive as ever. But even a little momentum after a multi-year slide (give or take) stands out. Are we truly at the dawn of a new era in auto retail, or is artificial intelligence mostly hype layered onto existing processes? Presidio Principal Matt Assad led a dynamic discussion at the 7th Annual U.S. Auto Retail Conference with Devin Daly, CEO and Co-Founder, Impel; Scott Gunnell, President, JM&A Group; and Eric Flow, COO, Flow Automotive Companies; to explore the biggest opportunities and risks associated with AI. The panel examined how these technologies are being implemented inside stores today to reduce friction in the customer journey and improve dealership efficiency. As Scott Gunnell noted, “We are moving at a fast pace with AI, and we need to be pragmatic about implementing applications…” Devin Daly emphasized that “AI is unique in that traditional software really only had one value prop. It would either cut costs, improve conversion or improve the customer experience. And AI is really unique in that it can do all three of those things. It's really a triple threat value proposition.” And Eric Flow shared, “The AI future is not an anti-human stance. It’s a pro-human stance.
