Something new is coming to one of Seattle’s most historic neighborhoods. We’re installing a protected bike lane from Occidental Ave S to the waterfront, closing a critical gap in the City Center Bike Network! Right now, crews are upgrading the signal at 1st Ave and Yesler Way to include an all-way-walk phase, making it safer for people walking, biking, and rolling. You’ll start to notice the bike lane installation in the coming weeks. The historic infrastructure added some unique challenges to this project. It’s happening! Yesler Way is getting a new protected bike lane from Occidental Ave S to the waterfront. This project fills a gap in Seattle’s City Center Bike Network and creates a much-anticipated, safer connection between Pioneer Square, downtown, and the waterfront. Construction officially began this week with underground work, and more visible changes on the street will follow in the coming weeks. Building this missing piece to the city’s bike network wasn’t simple. The historic nature of Pioneer Square and the age of the infrastructure made adding modern bike and signal improvements complicated, requiring careful design and coordination. SDOT worked closely with Alliance for Pioneer Square to move this long-planned connection forward. 🔗 Read more about it: https://lnkd.in/gNuEfcpq ...
