In 2025, ICLS helped over 300 U.S. veterans and active military members obtain government assistance because we know that serving U.S. vets benefits society at-large in meaningful social and economic ways. In an effort to expand our veteran work and better support our local communities, ICLS makes it a priority to learn about the obstacles #veterans face while acquiring assistance they are entitled to. That is why we always jump at the chance to attend events like The National Organization of Veterans' Advocates, Inc ("NOVA") Conference - where we learned a great deal and gained access to new resources that will aid our clients. Thank you to the #NOVA2026 team for having us!

May 17th marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, which aims to combat the violence and discrimination still faced by LGBTQ+ people across the globe. At ICLS, we understand the importance in doing our part and proudly offer FREE, culturally competent legal services and community education to members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties through our LGBTQIA+ Services Program. Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are home to nearly 5 million people, from the urban areas of the Inland Empire to far-reaching desert cities of Blythe and Barstow. ICLS is proud to serve our vast and diverse region, approaching civil legal aid with a holistic approach to make sure our neighbors have the tools they need to thrive. Our 600+ pro bono volunteers help us do just that: by connecting families to CalFresh to combat hunger; giving people fresh starts through expungement; supporting small businesses and nonprofits, and so much more. #AdvocatesForJusitce

At ICLS, community connection is at the root of what we do, always. That's why we would like to thank the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Inland Empire (APALIE) for inviting us to their eighth annual installation dinner last week. Our staff thoroughly enjoyed welcoming their new leadership and celebrating APALIE's impact! The Inland Southern Region is fortunate to have so many active bar associations to forward professional development and advocacy, and we at ICLS are proud to support our staff's involvement. #CommunityStrong

Last week, ICLS's Housing Team presented on Mobile Home Rights at the Sun City Library, to help mobile home residents understand their rights, the responsibilities for both tenants and mobile home park owners, and common legal disputes. Mobile home law can be complex and difficult to navigate when issues arise — that's why ICLS is proud to provide community legal education, information, and representation to the mobile home community. Thanks to our partners at the Sun City Library for collaborating on this presentation!

Meet our new staff attorney, Shalah Fisher! 🎉 Shalah is a highly accomplished lawyer and Riverside local who is passionate about helping others and giving back to her community. An attorney on our Consumer team, Shalah is helping protect our clients' rights in court and supporting economic stability in our communities. Having grown up in Riverside County herself, Shalah is grateful for the chance to help the most vulnerable amongst us through her work at ICLS. "My 'why,'" Shalah explained, "is having the opportunity to help the most vulnerable in our communities, ensuring that everyone has access to justice, not just those who can afford a private attorney." Last year, ICLS impacted more than 20,000 residents in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties through free legal advice, information, and representation. We are proud to be the largest civil legal aid provider in our region, helping residents with complex civil legal issues related to housing, health care, family law and domestic violence, consumer debt, immigration, and so much more. At ICLS, housing continues to be at the core of what we do, making up just over 50% of our total caseload. With that, we protected the rights of more than 4,700 of our neighbors, fighting evictions and keeping families housed. We also served nearly 3,000 seniors, more than 3,200 people with disabilities, and engaged more than 600 volunteers to better meet the needs in our region.
