Building the world's first fusion power plant

About us

We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone. Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group and new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). Now, we're turning up operations for Polaris, and working towards delivering the world's first fusion power plant. More than ever, it's a pivotal time to join us and have the opportunity to solve real challenges to create a better energy future. You will see first-hand how we value urgency, rigor, ownership, and hard truths, knowing it will take each to do what no one has before. Joining us, you will push the boundaries of what's possible and transform humanity for the better - because the world can't wait.

This is plasma, looking down the tube of a Helion physics test bed. The video shows plasma being created and heated. You can see the ionization or breakdown of gas into plasma, a shockwave of heating, and structure seeded by the geometry of RF antennas. We are always working on new hardware to improve the pre-ionization process, and we have a stellar team working on simulations of the underlying physics using PIC codes like WarpX. Reach out to me if you are interested in plasma physics, computational modeling, or RF engineering!

A moment for the 🌟 TAID 🌟    Our TAID (Telemetry-Abort-Interlock-Diagnostics) Pallet controller is a custom printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) that serves several critical functions for our capacitor bank: precise, time-aligned triggering of solid-state switches, fault detection, high accuracy voltage measurements, and more. It acts as the ‘brain’ of Polaris, controlling every pulse.

Omega’s buildout is well underway. ⚙️ Our first facility custom-built for pulsed power manufacturing is being designed in-house to support commercial scale production, all under one roof. Five capacitor winding machines have been installed and are producing windings, the ultrathin layers of dielectric film and aluminum foil wound together inside a capacitor.

Tiny Merge is taking shape.    The first formation sections were dropped into place for our thermonuclear fusion testbed, marking the transition from standalone components to an integrated system. Tiny Merge will allow us to evaluate plasma behavior, merging dynamics, and new magnet designs on a smaller platform alongside Polaris before applying those lessons to future machines.  Read more about our progress at the link in the comments.

We’ve made TIME’s list of the 100 Most Influential Companies of 2026!     Energy innovation has never mattered more, and this moment reflects the extraordinary Helion team building with urgency toward the world’s first fusion power plant.    While we love an award, what motivates us most is what lies ahead: bringing fusion energy to the grid and unlocking a cleaner, more resilient future for everyone.    #TIME100Companies

Great to see this story highlight an important part of Helion’s mission! Technical milestones are critical, but they are only one piece of the job. The real work is building fusion in a way that can scale, because if it only works once or only leads to one plant, we have not accomplished the mission. That long-term view and focus on global deployment have to be built in from the beginning! Thanks to Lisa Stiffler and GeekWire for including Helion in the Sustainability Spotlight! https://lnkd.in/gjgG9WiQ

As we physically make progress building Orion, we are also making progress at the circuit level, defining the atomic unit that can scale into a grid‑ready system.  Our Orion Demonstrator Circuit is about defining that circuit: bipolar capacitors, high‑rep‑rate switching, and low‑loss interconnects designed for continuous operation. By validating performance, lifetime, and manufacturability now, we’re retiring risk early and turning Orion into an executable plant‑level design.  The team is testing this system to determine whether it can handle tens of thousands of amps, thousands of volts, millions of pulses, multiple Hz, and reliability demands of commercial scale.
