  • Retrofitting heavy-duty gas turbines for hydrogen is complex, far beyond a simple fuel switch. Operators now ask: Can turbines adapt for higher hydrogen blends or pure hydrogen while maintaining reliability, safety, and performance? In many cases, yes—but only with careful engineering and clarity on trade-offs. Key retrofit considerations include: • Combustion system redesign to manage hydrogen’s higher flame speed and different combustion behavior • Fuel delivery modifications, including valves, piping, and control systems suited for hydrogen service • Materials assessment to address risks such as embrittlement and long-term component degradation • NOx emissions management, since hydrogen combustion can increase flame temperature and emissions challenges • Turbine controls and operational flexibility, especially during load changes, startup, and fuel blending transitions • Plant safety upgrades, including leak detection, ventilation, and revised operating procedures Just as important, every retrofit must be evaluated in the context of fuel availability, economics, outage planning, and grid requirements. Hydrogen retrofits are not one-size-fits-all. The most successful projects balance decarbonization drive with practical execution—grounded in plant-specific engineering realities. For asset owners and operators, the real opportunity is not just making turbines hydrogen-capable, but doing so in a way that preserves uptime, manages risk, and preserves long-term asset value. How are you approaching hydrogen retrofit readiness? #Hydrogen #GasTurbines #PowerGeneration #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition #IndustrialEngineering #PowerPlants #CleanEnergy

The 2026 7F USERS GROUP Conference is wrapping up in The Woodlands, and it was a great week for the Hanwha Power team.   Gregory Vogel, Ph.D. and the team presented the GTOP performance and reliability roadmap on Monday. They shared field results from the first two GTOP4 installations, which confirmed our stated performance targets. The team also covered the additive manufacturing and advanced nickel alloy development path behind GTOP4. For 7F operators evaluating AGP alternatives, the GTOP4 results made a strong statement regarding HP’s portfolio and capabilities.   Over 65 attendees attended Tuesday’s presentation from Hany Rizkalla and Mark Husak on operational flexibility. They covered FlameSheet combustion technology, which provides improved turndown and startup robustness. They discussed the Exhaust Bleed system, which controls exhaust temperature in combined-cycle applications. They also introduced the FlexLogic platform. This control system-agnostic alternative lets operators integrate non-OEM upgrades without being locked into a proprietary controls architecture. The discussion on the expanded operating range, up to a 196-MW increase in a 2x1 combined-cycle configuration, generated strong interest.   The consistent message across both days: Hanwha Power's investment in the 7F fleet isn't slowing down. The product roadmap is active, and we continue to partner with customers to unlock additional operational flexibility.   If you’d like to continue the conversation, contact us or visit hanwhapower.com.   #HanwhaPower #7FUsersGroup #GasTurbines #GTOP4 #PowerGeneration

Ensuring reliability for aging GE and Siemens gas turbine fleets is an escalating challenge. While a full unit replacement is often impractical due to cost, outage planning, and long lead times, performance and availability gains can still be achieved. The key is not simply replacing worn parts. Instead, focus on identifying the components that cause operational bottlenecks and upgrading them with a targeted, value-driven strategy. By retrofitting critical components such as blades, vanes, seals, and combustion hardware, operators can: • Improve reliability and reduce forced outages • Extend equipment life without major capital replacement • Enhance availability during peak demand periods • Support better thermal performance and operational flexibility • Lower long-term maintenance risk on aging assets The key is not simply replacing worn parts. Instead, focus on identifying components that cause operational bottlenecks and upgrade them using a targeted, value-driven strategy. For plants managing mature turbine fleets, selective modernization can bridge the gap between legacy equipment limitations and today’s performance expectations. In summary, aging assets do not always require complete replacement; often, the highest return comes from upgrading the right parts at the right time. #HanwhaPower #GasTurbines #PowerGeneration #HotGasPath #TurbineMaintenance #AssetManagement #OutagePlanning

The 2026 7F USERS GROUP Annual Conference in The Woodlands has concluded. The conversations at booth 18 during Monday's Vendor Fair covered a lot of ground: GTOP4 performance results, FlameSheet combustion retrofit feasibility for specific sites, interval extension options, and outage scope planning for the back half of the year. Traffic was steady throughout the session, and the hardware on display gave operators something concrete to engage with. The Vendor Solution presentations drew a full room each day. Gregory Vogel, Ph.D. walked through the 7F performance and reliability upgrade roadmap, including what GTOP4 is delivering in the field and how advanced alloys and additive manufacturing are addressing legacy hardware risk. Hany Rizkalla covered operational flexibility: FlameSheet combustion, exhaust bleed systems for extended turndown, and the FlexLogic control platform as a control system-agnostic alternative for operators who need to expand unit operating range without locking into OEM controls. Monday evening at Mahoney's with Arnold Group provided a fitting conclusion to the week. If you visited our booth or attended the sessions and would like to discuss performance upgrades or solutions further, please contact us directly. Same team. Same service. Proven upgrades. #HanwhaPower #7FUsersGroup #GasTurbines #PowerGeneration #PlantOperations

  • Hanwha Power is returning to Combustion Turbine Operations Technical Forum (CTOTF™) this August as a Super Champion Sponsor. CTOTF has been running since 1975, which makes it the longest-running user-led gas turbine forum in the power generation industry. The format is peer-driven roundtables, which means the conversations are operator-to-operator, not vendor presentations. For combustion turbine plant managers and operations engineers, it's one of the more useful rooms to be in all year. The 2026 conference runs August 30 through September 3 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio Riverwalk. If you're attending and want to connect with our team, reach out ahead of time or find us on-site. Early bird registration is open now at ctotf.org. #HanwhaPower #CTOTF #GasTurbines #PowerGeneration #CombustionTurbines
