Last week, Governors State University College of Business had the opportunity to visit Gotion Inc. to tour their facility, discuss the mobile charger gift, and explore how the resulting data will be used in student projects across a range of academic areas. This hands-on access to real-world data creates meaningful learning experiences that extend well beyond the classroom. The visit also opened the door to future collaboration between Governors State University and Gotion—including internships, grants, research and development initiatives, data analysis, and optimized solutions. Partnerships like these reflect a shared commitment to innovation, workforce development, and applied learning. Southeast Asia is accelerating into its next phase of battery growth — and the Fastmarkets Asian Battery Raw Materials & Recycling Conference is where the region’s most influential voices will set the tone for what comes next. We’re excited to reveal the first speakers shaping this year’s programme, bringing insight from across the APAC battery ecosystem: ✅ John Kwon, General Counsel, CATL ✅ Desmond Toh, Global Head of Sustainability, GLC Recycle ✅ Yan Changqing, APAC Chief Operation Officer, Gotion Inc. ✅ Dev Ashish Aneja, Head of Cell Supply Chain & Battery Recycling, Ather Energy ✅ Harendra Saksena, Chief Procurement Officer, Ather Energy ✅ Eugene Ho, President, CoreMax Corporation And this is just the start — many more high-impact speakers will be announced in the coming weeks. Why attend? South-East Asia is rapidly emerging as a critical battery hub, with major midstream, downstream and EV ecosystem investment flowing into Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and neighbouring markets. The Hanoi conference, taking place from April 27 - 29, 2026, connects regional and international delegates with the wider APAC picture — covering trends and developments across China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, India and beyond. Expect deep-dive discussions on: • Southeast Asia’s rise as a midstream and assembly powerhouse • Cross-border supply-chain diversification • Trade flows, tariffs and geopolitics • Recycling, black mass and circularity • Chemistry shifts, technology trends and ESS growth • OEM localisation strategies and regional competitiveness • APAC regulatory, investment and market outlooks 🎟 Secure your place now to access the most competitive rates: https://fmrkts.com/4aRZJtV #FastmarketsBRM #Asia #BatteryMaterials

A few weeks ago, the 21st Annual Columbia Energy Symposium gathered over 380 students and leaders across policy, finance, industry, and academia for a full-day program of panels, career sessions, and roundtable discussions. As the Symposium's Program Director via the Columbia Energy Association, I was grateful to our powerhouse lineup of keynote speakers: FERC Commissioner David Rosner, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Justin E. Driscoll, Doreen Harris, Simon Irish, and Chris Creed. I also moderated a panel on how the explosion of AI and data centers is impacting electricity costs and the energy transition—a special note of thanks to Heather McGeory, Levi Patterson, Charles Hua, and Joe H., who brought a great deal of expertise and candor to the conversation. Throughout the day, speakers made it clear that the global energy system is shifting faster than our institutions, markets, and politics are prepared for. Key insights included: 🔹 Global energy geopolitics is splintering, and as climate change accelerates, countries are pursuing multi-speed energy transitions rather than coordinated pathways. While clean energy momentum persists on economics, reliability and affordability interests and domestic populist politics will shape energy policy more than COP-centered multilateralism. 🔹 In emerging markets, the primary barrier to a strong pipeline of clean energy projects is not a lack of global capital in the aggregate. Rather structural inequities like debt distress, limited early-stage support, and weak access to project preparation shape investors' perception of risk. 🔹Data centers’ addition of spiky, heat-intensive demand onto an aging grid is accelerating existing trends like rising transmission prices, increased demand from manufacturing and electrification, and peak-capacity costs. These costs are flowing through to the tens of millions of Americans already struggling to pay their electricity bills. How AI’s explosive growth and energy use are managed hinges in part on strong utility regulation and public advocacy. 🔹 Community trust is now core infrastructure: for siting, permitting, and the long-term legitimacy of major projects, communities need to be engaged early, share real decision-making power and long-term economic benefits, and see transparent, fairly allocated costs — rather than being treated as sites for extraction or symbolic gestures. A huge thank you to the rest of the organizing team: Tulika Gupta, Ashish Sharma, Ellen Wang, Ashley Joo, Nicolette Slusser, Christophe Strunc, Mariana Melo Botelho, and Hunter Dare—this couldn't have come together as smoothly as it did without each of your unique skills and instincts. Finally, thank you to our sponsors — New York Power Authority, NYSERDA, Terrestrial Energy, DESRI, RWE, NextEra Energy, Inc., Gotion Inc., Vistra Corp., Hydro Québec, GS Power Partners, and Center on Global Energy Policy for enabling the scale and ambition of this year's event.

Thank you Erin Mathews (supply chain lead and EMBA144!) and Mark Kreusel (general manager) for your gracious hosting five Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management professors and five students at Gotion Inc. Illinois. Gotion makes Lithium-Ion batteries (and packs) for electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems. In just one year, Gotion has made strong progress: they've gone from groundbreaking on their 153-acre, $2B battery campus in Mantego, IL, to five production lines making EV batteries, energy storage systems, and mobile chargers. Loved the plant visit and the fire chat session. Looking forward to seeing Gotion scale further and contributing to the transformation of green energy!
