Diet is often the first thing postpartum patients try to change, and it's also where they get the most conflicting advice, from social media to well-meaning relatives. Much of it isn't right for a healing postpartum gut. In episode 3 of our Postpartum Gut Health Education Series, Dr. Kruti Patel identifies some common food triggers for postpartum IBS flares, including FODMAPs, caffeine, dairy, and other choices that can quietly inflame a sensitive gut. #WomensHealthMonth #PostpartumGutHealth #IBS #PatientEducation #GIAlliance

Today brings two observances with a closely related clinical message: World IBD Day and National Hepatitis Testing Day. In both inflammatory bowel disease and chronic viral hepatitis, early detection is one of the strongest predictors of long-term outcomes. In IBD, time to diagnosis influences hospitalization rates, surgical rates, and long-term disability. Early initiation of advanced therapy, where appropriate, reduces complications and preserves years of quality of life. https://worldibdday.org/ In hepatitis B and C, screening identifies chronic infections well before they progress to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Universal adult hepatitis C screening has been the standard recommendation for several years, yet a meaningful portion of patients still have never been tested. https://lnkd.in/gFKR6M83 The path forward is consistent across both conditions: earlier screening, faster diagnosis, and timely initiation of treatment. Today is a useful moment to audit our panels and identify the patients who have been missed.

"Is this just part of being a new mom?" It's one of the most common questions postpartum patients ask their OB/GYN or primary care provider, and one of the hardest to answer in a short visit. Part 2 of our Postpartum Gut Health Education Series with Dr. Kruti Patel gives referring providers a clear, patient-friendly explainer of what's a normal postpartum adjustment vs. what warrants a deeper GI workup. #WomensHealthMonth #PostpartumGutHealth #FourthTrimester #PatientEducation #GIAlliance

Colonoscopy remains one of the most effective cancer interventions in modern medicine, yet screening rates among adults 45 and older continue to fall short of national guideline targets. The reasons are well documented and span fear of the procedure, access barriers, prep burden, cost, language, and competing time demands. Older Americans Month is a useful moment to identify patients who are overdue, those who have previously declined, and those who have never been formally invited to screen. Each outreach contributes to a measurable public health outcome, and each meaningful conversation moves a population a step closer to prevention. https://lnkd.in/gWSYxsSA #HealthyAging #ColonHealth #ScreeningSavesLives #OlderAmericansMonth

May is Women's Health Month and one of the most under-recognized chapters of women's health begins after delivery. Up to 1 in 5 women develop new or worsening GI symptoms postpartum, and IBS is among the most overlooked diagnoses in the fourth trimester. To mark the month, GI Alliance is launching our Postpartum Gut Health Education Series with Dr. Kruti Patel. We'll be sharing five short, patient-friendly videos built for OB/GYNs, primary care teams, and women's health partners to share with their patients. Episode 1 explores why postpartum women are uniquely vulnerable to IBS: hormonal shifts, pelvic floor changes, sleep disruption, and stress, all at once. #WomensHealthMonth #PostpartumGutHealth #PatientEducation #GIAlliance #IBS

The gut-brain axis has moved from a frontier topic in gastroenterology to an established component of mainstream clinical practice. Its influence is now visible across the management of irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia, refractory reflux, and chronic abdominal pain of unclear origin, and it increasingly shapes how we design treatment plans and collaborate with behavioral health colleagues. During Mental Health Awareness Month, our role as a specialty is to ensure that every patient with a functional GI disorder has access to integrated behavioral support, and that our behavioral health partners have a reliable GI consultant to work alongside. National Hospital Week highlights the coordinated effort required to deliver high-quality patient care. Hospital-based teams play a critical role across the GI continuum, from acute symptom evaluation and inpatient consults to endoscopy, diagnostics, and ongoing management. Outcomes depend on alignment across disciplines, timely decision-making, and consistent communication. GI Alliance recognizes the physicians, nurses, and clinical and operational teams who make that coordination possible. Their work continues to be foundational to patient care and specialty outcomes. https://lnkd.in/ee999hn #NationalHospitalWeek #HealthcareLeadership #ClinicalExcellence #PatientOutcomes #CareCoordination #Gastroenterology #HealthcareTeams #HospitalMedicine #QualityCare #WeAreHealthCare

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause extend beyond commonly recognized symptoms, with a growing impact on gastrointestinal function. Fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone can affect gut motility, sensitivity, and the balance of the gut microbiome. As a result, many women experience symptoms such as bloating, constipation, and acid reflux during this transition. These symptoms are common, but often under-recognized or attributed to diet or stress alone. Improving awareness of this connection can support more accurate evaluation, earlier intervention, and better symptom management. A patient-friendly resource outlining what to expect and when to seek care is included here: https://lnkd.in/gtmiVRyS #WomensHealth #GutHealth

During Nurses Week, we recognize the critical role nurses play across every stage of gastrointestinal care. From patient education and procedural support to care coordination and follow-up, GI nurses are central to delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. Their clinical expertise, attention to detail, and ability to navigate complex patient needs contribute directly to improved outcomes and overall care experience. We thank our GI Alliance nursing teams for their continued dedication and the vital role they play in patient care every day. #NursesWeek2026 #NationalNursesWeek #ThankYouNurses #ThePowerOfNurses

60 million Americans live with a digestive condition. An estimated 2 million have celiac disease, and many don't know it. That's the backdrop for May, which carries two observances central to our specialty: Digestive Disease Awareness Month and Celiac Disease Awareness Month. Our physicians see the consequences of delayed diagnosis every day. They also see what earlier detection, sharper diagnostics, and better therapeutics can do about it. https://lnkd.in/eJsSY2Rt #DigestiveDiseaseAwarenessMonth #CeliacAwareness #Gastroenterology
