The City of Fresno keeps a cybersecure environment by prioritizing regular maintenance that ensures dependable #water services and safeguards consumer data. To that end, EA recently wrapped up a project to upgrade their SCADA system, networking platform, and reporting procedures. After conducting training, these enhancements have accelerated #SCADA startup by over 66% and the new automated reporting system significantly eased the workload of operators.
We're just being honest.
As he's become a subject matter expert on Inductive Automation's Ignition, controls engineer Will McCloud developed some hot takes and a tier list of its modules. Do you agree? Let us know what your experience has been! A TIER Perspective: It's a strong modern web UI visualization software; it's solid, scalable, and flexible across the board. Alarms: This is very straightforward and easy to use. Their pipeline block editor and set of options in the tags field are great. OPC UA: With their extensive list of drivers, I've never run into any issues using Ignition to communicate with devices in the field. B TIER Vision: The application-based counterpart to Perspective is generally good, but doesn't seem to get as many feature releases Historian: It's pretty basic but works for a lot of facilities, since it can store data, do forwarding, can be queried. Storage was a little inefficient but 8.3 definitely has improved compression. Enterprise Administration Module (EAM): It has all the core functionality you'd expect but it lacks a lot of the granularity that some of the source control styles or development modules that other SCADA systems have. D TIER Reporting: Ignition's SCADA system may be an overall fan favorite within our engineering community, but the designer UI for reporting is unintuitive relative to the other functions. It's a little too easy to forget how to work with the module settings. #Ignition #SCADA

Pop quiz time! ✏️ How well do you know your own control system? Figure out where your organization stands in its digital transformation journey in a few questions... 1. Does your organization have switches, firewalls, and other networking hardware with an end of sale date more than 1 year away? 2. Does your organization have active manufacturer support contracts for all critical infrastructure including PLCs, servers, switches, and instrumentation? 3. Do you regularly audit all system alarms? 4. What's the bug situation with your organization's SCADA system? 5. Are the PLC cabinets and electrical panels are well-kept, clean, and up to code? Are the wires labelled, and is there a copy of the latest as-built electrical drawings in the cabinet? Find our full mini-diagnostic on our website in the comments and learn how you can take your control system to the next level.

In his nearly 6 years at EA, Ezequiel Ansaldi has gone from a newbie controls engineer to a trusted consultant leading large-scale audit and design projects and a major support to our early career engineers. We're rooting for him all the way! 🌟
