We’re excited to announce that Michael Bates has recently accepted the role of Area Manager for the Northern Texas area! Mike originally joined ELM Utility Services in 2012 and has brought more than 10 years of industry experience to the role. Throughout his career, he has progressed through several positions, including Locate Technician, Lead Tech, Supervisor, building a strong operational foundation and leadership skillset along the way. When asked about this promotion, Mike shared that he is excited for the opportunity to work with a larger team and make an even greater impact across operations. As he steps in this role, Mike’s primary focus is safety, ensuring employees go home safely each day while continuing to strengthen teamwork, operational understanding, and overall performance across the area. Mike demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, safety, and operational excellence throughout his career, and we are excited to see the impact he will continue to make in this role. ⚠️ Near Miss. Major Impact Avoided. Photo of the Month winner, Cade Matye of the Great Falls, Montana, team responded to a locate request involving the removal of a pedestrian bridge. The requestor originally planned to cut the exposed pipe at each end with a grinder — but made the smart decision to contact 811 first. During the locate, Cade identified the line as an ACTIVE 76 PSI gas pipe and documented the situation as a Near Miss. This is exactly why damage prevention matters. One call prevented a potentially dangerous incident and protected both people and infrastructure. Jennifer Smith-Barnett has accepted the role of Corporate Quality Control Manager! She’s supported multiple regions—helping drive quality initiatives in Texas and later supporting operational growth in Nebraska. We are excited to announce that Jason Lattin has accepted the role of Area Manager for Grand Prairie, Texas! Jason joined ELM in December 2022 as a Locate Technician in Waco, Texas, supporting a newly acquired contract. Since then, he has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, commitment to quality, and outstanding leadership potential. In recognition of his contributions, Jason was promoted to Lead Locate Technician in 2023 and later advanced to Supervisor in December 2025. Throughout his time with ELM, Jason has continued to set a high standard of excellence, and we are confident he will make a tremendous impact in his new role as Area Manager as Jason is once again supporting exponential growth in Texas. We are thrilled to share that David Wilde has recently accepted the role of Washington State Director! David has been part of ELM for more than eight years, and during his time with us, he has progressed through various positions. Shortly after he began, he was swiftly promoted to Supervisor in Seattle, Washington, and in 2022, he took on the role of Mt. Vernon Area Manager, followed by the Seattle Area Manager position a few months later. David has shown exceptional leadership abilities and a steadfast dedication to achieving success.
