  • 🌊🐶 Water Safety for Dogs! Whether it’s a pool, lake, or beach day, water fun can turn dangerous fast if we’re not careful with our pups. 🚨 Water safety tips for dogs: 💧 Not all dogs can swim! Breeds with short legs or flat faces (like Bulldogs or Pugs) may struggle in the water. 🦺 Use a dog life jacket—especially in lakes, rivers, or on boats. Even strong swimmers can get tired or caught in currents. 🏖️ Watch for hazards like strong currents, sharp rocks, or blue-green algae (which is toxic!). 🚫 Don’t let dogs drink pool or lake water. Chlorine and bacteria can cause stomach upset—or worse. 🦴 Rinse off after swimming to remove chlorine, salt, or lake bacteria from their coat and paws. 🐾 Supervise at all times. Accidents can happen in seconds—even in shallow water. Let’s keep summer safe, splashy, and fun for our furry friends! 💙 #DogWaterSafety #SummerPetTips #VetAdvice #PetParenting #SafeSwimming

  • 🐍 Snake Bites & Pets As summer heats up, so does snake activity—and our pets are at risk. North Texas is home to several venomous snakes, including: Copperheads (most common in the area) Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes Cottonmouths (Water Moccasins) Texas Coral Snakes (rare but dangerous) 🐶 Most bites happen in backyards, parks, or on trails. Dogs are often bitten on the face, legs, or paws while sniffing around brush, woodpiles, or tall grass. 🐍 Signs your pet may have been bitten: Sudden yelp or pain Swelling at the bite site Puncture wounds (may be hard to see) Bruising or bleeding Lethargy or collapse Vomiting or drooling 🚨 If your pet is bitten: Stay calm and keep them still Do NOT try to suck out venom or apply a tourniquet Get to EAHCC immediately for antivenin administration and hospitalization 🛡️ Prevention tips: Keep pets leashed on walks Avoid tall grass and brushy areas Clear your yard of debris and woodpiles Ask your vet about the rattlesnake vaccine and snake aversion training Let’s keep our Plano pets safe from slithery surprises this summer! 🐾💚 EAHCC is open 24/7 for pet emergencies--including snake bites! • Hot Cars Kill—Even in Minutes 🐶💔 It only takes 10 minutes for a car’s interior to become deadly on a warm day, even with the windows cracked. On a 90°F Texas day, your car can reach over 130°F in just minutes. That’s a life-threatening oven for your pet. 🐾 Dogs can’t sweat like humans. They overheat quickly, and heatstroke can set in fast, causing organ failure or even death. Never leave your pet in a parked car. Not for a minute. Not with the AC “running.” Not in the shade. If you see a pet locked in a hot car, call local authorities immediately. You could save a life. 💛 Let’s keep our furry friends safe this summer. They depend on us. 🐕☀️ #HotCarDanger #PetHeatSafety #TexasPets #HeatstrokeAwareness #NeverLeavePetsInCars #VetTips

  • Protect Those Paws! ☀️🐾 Texas heat doesn’t just scorch the air—it heats up sidewalks, asphalt, and sand to dangerous levels for your pet’s paws. 🥵 🐶 Paw burns are real and painful. Surfaces can reach 150°F+ on a 90°F day—hot enough to cause burns in seconds! 👣 Quick test: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. ✅ Tips to protect your pet: Walk early in the morning or after sunset 🌅 Stick to grass or shaded paths 🌳 Use pet-safe booties or paw wax 🧦 Check paws for redness, blisters, or limping 🚨 📲 If you suspect a burn, call EAHCC at (214) 547-9900 immediately! Let’s keep those paws safe and summer walks happy! 🐾💛 #PetHeatSafety #PawProtection #TexasPets #VetTips #HotPavement #SummerPetCare

  • 🍇 #ToxicityTuesday: Grapes & Raisins – A Hidden Danger! 🐾 Did you know that grapes and raisins can be highly toxic to dogs, even in small amounts? ⚠️ These seemingly harmless snacks can cause: Vomiting Lethargy Loss of appetite Kidney failure in severe cases There’s no “safe” amount, and not all dogs react the same, so it’s best to keep grapes and raisins completely off the menu. 👀 Watch out for: Trail mix Baked goods Cereal bars Fruit salads If your pet accidentally eats any, call EAHCC at (214) 547-9900 immediately. Quick action can save lives! 💚 #PetSafety #VetTips #GrapeToxicity #DogHealth #EmergencyVet #HealthyPets

  • Texas Heat & Pet Safety! ☀️🐶 Texas summers are no joke—and neither is the risk of heatstroke in pets. When temps soar, our furry friends need extra protection! 🚫 Never leave pets in parked cars—even for a minute. Temps can skyrocket in seconds. 🌡️ Limit outdoor time during peak heat (10 AM–4 PM). Early mornings and evenings are safest. 🐾 Hot pavement = burned paws! If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet. 💧 Hydration is key! Always have fresh, cool water available—indoors and out. 😓 Watch for signs of heat stress: Excessive panting Drooling Weakness or collapse Vomiting If you notice any of these, cool your pet down and call EAHCC at (214) 547-9900 immediately! Let’s keep tails wagging safely all summer long! 💛 #PetHeatSafety #TexasPets #SummerTips #VetAdvice #HeatstrokeAwareness #CoolPetsHappyPets

  • 🔥 🚒 National Pet Fire Safety Day is July 15th. 🐾 According to the National Fire Protection Association, 500,000 pets are affected by house fires each year, with 1,000 house fires started by pets themselves. Whether the fire is caused by an appliance, outlet, or your pet, the following tips may help prevent your pets from causing a fire and keep them safe during and after a fire. 🚪 Include pets in your fire escape plan Practice routes and make sure everyone knows who’s responsible for each pet. 🚨 Use monitored smoke detectors They can alert emergency services even when you’re not home. 🦴 Keep collars and leashes near exits In an emergency, you’ll need to evacuate quickly. 🔥 Pet-proof your home Don’t leave candles, stovetops, or space heaters unattended—especially around curious paws. 🐾 Window clings save lives Place a pet alert decal on windows to let firefighters know how many pets are inside. (Just ask us for one!) Let’s honor National Pet Fire Safety Day by making sure our homes are safe for every member of the family—two-legged and four-legged alike. ❤️🔥 #PetFireSafety #NationalPetFireSafetyDay #EmergencyPreparedness #PetSafetyTips #FireSafety #ProtectYourPets

  • 🌊☀️ #ToxicityTuesday: Pool Chemical Safety & Your Pets! 🐶🐾 Summer fun means pool time—but don’t forget that pool chemicals can be dangerous for pets if not handled properly! 🚫 Keep pets away from stored chlorine, algaecides, and shock treatments. Even small amounts can cause serious harm if ingested or inhaled. 💦 Rinse off your pet after a swim to remove chlorine or saltwater residue from their fur and paws. 🧼 Store chemicals securely—preferably in a locked cabinet or shed, far from curious noses. 🐕 If your pet shows signs like drooling, vomiting, red eyes, or trouble breathing after pool exposure, contact EAHCC immediately. Let’s keep summer safe and splashy—for everyone! 💙 #PetSafety #SummerTips #PoolSafety #VetTips #PetCare #DogDaysOfSummer
