Let's talk about the part of the federal application most people rush through: the questionnaire. It might feel like a formality, but it's actually one of the most critical steps. Here's the inside scoop: That questionnaire is not just skimmed; it's scored. Your answers determine your initial ranking. When you select "I am an expert" on a specific skill, you are telling the system you are a top candidate. But here's the catch—and where most people get lost—you must have experience listed in your resume that explicitly proves that expert-level claim. If you claim to be an expert in "contract negotiations," but your resume doesn't clearly describe your negotiation experience and achievements, HR can't credit your claim. The result? Your score is lowered, and you're screened out, even if you're perfectly qualified. The Tip: Treat the questionnaire as your first interview. Be confident in your expert ratings, then immediately double-check that your resume provides the undeniable proof.
