Powering NYC, Westchester, and leading the clean energy transition.

About us

We provide power to more than 10 million people and businesses across NYC and Westchester. Reliability and accessibility are central to what we do and how we provide energy service. Leading the industry to power tomorrow is our other focus- we are committed to aggressively transitioning away from fossil fuels to a net-zero economy by 2050. To help achieve this we collaborate with customers, regulators, policymakers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure our clean energy future is informed by principles of affordability, equity, and environmental justice. We’re also heavily investing in new technologies and the infrastructure that can get us there. What are a few things we have achieved so far? • Since 2009, our energy efficiency programs have prevented 11 million metric tons of carbon emissions – the same amount it would take to power 1.4 million homes for a year • Recently, we’ve embarked on an 8-year project to make our systems more resilient in the face of extreme weather events

  • Building the grid of the future depends on strong collaboration at every level. These ongoing conversations and partnerships help ensure the grid continues to keep pace with a growing and evolving region.

Last week, I had the opportunity to moderate a panel at the 2026 Regional Plan Association Assembly on The Grid of the Future sponsored by Con Edison. Modernizing the grid is a complex undertaking that depends on thoughtful investment, coordinated planning, and strong collaboration from a wide range of stakeholders. Thanks to Houtan Moaveni, Michael Richter, Ellen Zuckerman, and the Honorable Andrew Zwicker who shared insights into how we can work together to support continued advancement of the grid.   During the panel, we covered: 💡 The need for an integrated approach: Meeting this challenge will require the full range of solutions across grid management, policymaking, regulation, and innovative technologies to move the grid forward. 💡 Growing demand: How rapidly growing demand, including from widespread building electrification and large loads and data centers, is changing the planning landscape and underscoring the need for creative solutions. 💡 Energy affordability: The ever-present need to stay focused on affordability for customers and think holistically about the contributors that impact customer bills, including supply costs, taxes and fees, and utility expenses.   Thank you to Regional Plan Association for continuing to cultivate meaningful convenings like this one, and to the panelists for their great work and engagement! These are critical conversations as we work across sectors to help ensure that the grid can continue to support a growing, evolving region.   You can view the full recording here: https://lnkd.in/eqePz5cp

  • The Eco‑Innovator Award recognizes our work with community partners across our service territory to advance a more inclusive, resilient clean energy future.

[AND THE WINNERS OF THE 2026 INNOVATION AWARDS ARE...]   A big congrats to the winning companies, announced on the main stage of #BCConf26 last night, across four different categories.   In the Eco-Innovator category, congrats to Con Edison! Con Edison developed an integrated, partnership-driven model that embeds environmental justice, reduces fragmentation among grantees, and positions Con Edison as a convenor rather than just a funder. Nearly half of Con Edison's service area includes historically underserved neighborhoods—communities that bear a disproportionate share of climate risk while having the fewest resources to adapt. Recognizing that the clean energy transition must be inclusive to be meaningful, Con Edison created a signature grant initiative to address the impacts of extreme heat and flooding in state-designated disadvantaged communities across New York. Con Edison committed to a multi-year investment in six leading climate justice organizations—a model designed to stabilize nonprofits, enable stakeholder sharing to drive scale, and support the kind of coordinated, community-led action that moves beyond traditional grantmaking. The results reflect that depth of investment: 2,200 community members mobilized in climate resilience, 400+ energy and climate audits through NYC's first faith-based audit program, expanded cooling centers, solar Wi-Fi infrastructure, and youth climate training for 120+ participants.   Pictured here, Hilary S. Ayala, Executive Director Con Edison Foundation and Director of Corporate Philanthropy & Employee Engagement, accepting the award with BMO's Helen Seibel and BCCCC's Katherine V. Smith.   Stay tuned for more on this program in an upcoming issue of The Corporate Citizen, or register for our free, open-to-all webinar coming up in June, where the folks behind this work and other winning entries will share more about their innovative programs.   Register here: https://lnkd.in/eh_UXee5   #innovation #CSR #socialimpact

Yesterday at the BloombergNEF Summit New York, our CEO, Tim Cawley, joined utility leaders from Duke Energy Corporation and Southern California Edison (SCE) to discuss what it takes to deliver reliable, affordable, and resilient energy systems as demand accelerates. The conversation focused on a critical challenge: as electrification, customer demand, and economic growth push electricity needs to new highs, how can utilities balance modernizing the grid at scale with keeping energy affordable for customers. For Con Edison, reliability is not optional. We deliver 44% of New York State’s electricity, powering the world’s financial capital and the essential services nine million New Yorkers rely on every day. Meeting that responsibility requires long‑term, disciplined investment—strengthening infrastructure, hardening the system against extreme weather, and building flexibility into how we plan for an increasingly electric future. A resilient grid is the foundation of economic confidence, climate readiness, and community well‑being. By investing thoughtfully, operating efficiently, and remaining strong stewards of customer dollars, utilities can support growth, innovation, and affordability today and for decades to come.

  • This year’s Orchid Show at New York Botanical Garden celebrates the power of community gardens, places people rely on to grow, learn, and connect. That same spirit drives Bronx Green Up, a trusted program supporting thousands of community gardeners across the Bronx and helping communities grow plants in an ever‑changing climate. Proud to support work that’s rooted in knowledge, resilience, and long‑term impact. Learn more: http://spr.ly/6041BBD0wx

  • Glad to have been alongside the Edison Electric Institute and industry colleagues to celebrate the strong connection between energy, reliability, and the institutions and people that keep the city moving.

A behind-the-scenes look at the NYSE!   EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney joined Con Edison and our member company executives to celebrate how America’s electric companies are delivering the energy of every day—as well as Con Edison’s legacy of reliably serving New York City and the NYSE for more than 200 years.

  • What started as a conversation turned into a thriving Brooklyn restaurant for over 12 years. FiFi and Gwen of The Crabby Shack shared how their fully electric operation and smarter energy choices help keep the kitchen running and the seafood coming.

  • Rain or shine, our crews show up and get it done. A few weeks ago in Gowanus, our crew pushed forward installing a new transformer in what felt like 5 degrees in order to stay on track for their summer deadline. This work will help power the neighborhood and strengthen reliability across Brooklyn as demand for electricity rises.
