Our new #ServiceInAction Nook is now open at the Martin Luther King Branch – and City of Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther joined us to commemorate the occasion. 🇺🇸 The special nook celebrates service in all its forms, from military to community action, and highlights books and stories that honor those who make a difference. The nook also features a letter-writing station which encourages young readers to write a thank you note to a veteran. Mayor Ginther and library CEO Lauren Hagan were the first to pen their letters, inspiring dozens of #EastHigh and Mansion Day School students to write their own. The mayor spoke alongside Frederic "Dr. B" Bertley of COSI, and Kristen Rost, Vice President of the Nationwide Foundation, whose generous support made this reading nook possible. The new area is presented in partnership with The National Veterans Memorial and Museum and COSI - Center of Science and Industry.

For decades, Robert L. Patterson has poured his heart into his community. Now, we’re saying thank you – with a room in his honor. This room at the Marion-Franklin Branch now honors Robert, whose steadfast commitment helped bring library service to the area. His advocacy, alongside community support, championed the express branch at Beery Middle School in 2014 and the opening of the free-standing Marion-Franklin Branch in 2025. “As long as we keep working together, we can move mountains.” –Robert L. Patterson, 2025 #Community #Advocacy #Columbus

A round of applause for Eva Kennedy, violist with the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra! 👏 Several times a year, the orchestra sends an experienced musician to the library – introducing kids to classical music while strengthening their love of reading. #ClassicalMusic #Libraries #Education

After 25 years of writing poetry, this library regular is now a published author 👏 Shary Isaac has been writing for decades, but when she decided to publish her first book, she hit a roadblock – publishers required the submission to be in a specific digital format, and she wasn’t confident in her computer skills. Then, she became a regular at the library’s South High Branch. Two staff members helped her brush up on her word processing skills in the Community Support Center, and little by little, her goal came closer to reality. Last week, she finally published her first book of poems, returning to the library to celebrate. Congratulations, Shary. We’re proud to be a part of your story! #Libraries #LibraryLove #Authors
