Health is the heart of our community.
About us
Caring Health Center (CHC) is one of the premier health centers in Western Massachusetts, and for nearly 30 years it has served as an essential source of health care for residents of the greater Springfield area. CHC is the most culturally diverse and linguistically leading institution in the region. It is the leader in modeling employment equity based on being both women-led and having majority representation of people of color in our executive and overall leadership team. As an innovator, CHC has participated in federally funded research for over 21 years. In 1995, the time of its inception, CHC employed 20 and provided health care to 5,000 patients at a single site. Today, CHC employs over 250 and serves about 20,000 patients annually, providing affordable, quality, comprehensive medical care at three sites. In addition, the organization operates a state-of-the art pharmacy and WIC Nutrition Program, and serves as the largest Refugee Health Assessment provider in Massachusetts. CHC's on-site Wellness Center provides nutrition education, group physical exercise, and other services to support healthy and productive lives among patients. CHC’s team and Board of Directors ensure that patients receive comprehensive care that addresses their cultural, economic, and language needs, while its behavioral health specialists deliver services to address a wide range of emotional and other issues.

Excited to share that Tania Barber, President & CEO of Caring Health Center, was a featured panelist Thursday night at the 60th Anniversary of Community Health Centers, sponsored by the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers. Tania’s leadership, vision, and commitment to equitable, compassionate care continues to strengthen our communities and inspire the next generation of health advocates.
What an incredible night! 🎉 Yesterday, we came together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the nation’s first community health center at Columbia Point. Thank you to all who joined us! The heartfelt stories shared and decades of service honored highlights what makes our movement so special. For 60 years, we have been dedicated to building healthier communities, uplifting those who are underserved, and providing accessible, compassionate care for all. We were honored to be joined by longtime health center allies, Ambassador Vicki Kennedy and Mayor Michelle Wu, who spoke to the conviction of our movement’s early leaders and the importance of the work health centers do today. Thank you also to our esteemed panelists for sharing your insights and experiences: Lou Brady, Tania Barber, Jim Hunt, Dr. Jeff Markuns, Tom Ward, Bill Brett, Lou Jones, and Don West photography. Our excitement and gratitude can’t fit into just one post! Stay tuned for more highlights in the coming days. Harbor Health Services, Inc. Michael Curry, Esq. Edward M.
