But two-wheelers? They’re still largely unprotected. Helmets and ABS are where innovation stopped, even though bikes account for nearly 70% of road fatalities in India. At BYTES, we asked a simple question: 👉 If cars deserve intelligent safety, why not bikes? That question shaped everything we’ve built.     ⚡ 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 (𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 & 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗿) - 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗩𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠𝗠 𝗔𝗜 | BYTES 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Most crashes don’t happen because riders don’t see another vehicle. They happen because riders don’t have enough time to judge whether that vehicle will become a threat. On Indian roads, cars cut across, buses brake suddenly, and autos drift into lanes. Human reflexes, even at their best, can’t always compute closing speed and intent in time. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 BYTES 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝘁 BYTES’ Collision Alert continuously measures relative motion and computes a Time-to-Collision (TTC) for both forward and rear approaches. When TTC crosses a safe threshold, the system raises a prioritized alert, giving the rider a reliable early cue to brake, steer, or slow down. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘁 : BYTES’ Collision Alert is built on a TTC-first logic, a simple, interpretable measure of how many seconds remain before two objects would collide if they continue their current speeds and headings. To compute this reliably on two-wheelers, our system fuses monocular depth estimation with optical flow and IMU data to capture distance and closing speed. Rider intent signals such as turn indicators, micro-steering, and lean angles are integrated to suppress spurious alarms, ensuring alerts fire only when they truly matter. All of this runs vision-first on compact, edge-optimised ECUs consuming <10W, eliminating the need for costly radar or bulky LiDAR. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 : In dense traffic every second counts. Collision Alert reduces late reactions by surfacing objective closing-time information. The result: riders get a clear cue that lets them act earlier and smarter, fewer panic brakes, fewer surprises, and fewer high-energy impacts. 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 : This demo was validated on real Indian routes, night rides with parked vehicles, sudden lane cuts, and tight urban flows, because safety must work in reality, not just on a test track. 👉 Collision Alert isn’t theory.     ⚡𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞: 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐕𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌𝐌 𝐀𝐈 | BYTES 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐬 : Every rider knows the fear of the blind spot. On a two-wheeler, mirrors cover barely two-thirds of the road around you. In dense traffic, cars and scooters slip into hidden zones within seconds, unseen until it’s too late. For many, that moment ends in a side-swipe or worse. Blind-spot collisions are one of the leading causes of two-wheeler crashes in Indian cities. Riders don’t just need to see more, they need help understanding when a vehicle becomes a real risk. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 BYTES 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐭 : Our Blind Spot Monitoring isn’t built on rigid, fixed zones. Instead, it works as a 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹. The blind-spot regions are defined as adaptive 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 (𝗥𝗢𝗜𝘀) that expand or contract dynamically, shaped by rider velocity, lane curvature, and surrounding traffic density. In simple words, the system doesn’t just detect vehicles, it interprets their relative risk in real-world conditions and triggers alerts when it matters most. 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 : All of this runs in 𝘀𝘂𝗯-𝟯𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 (that’s faster than a human blink), optimized to under 7W on affordable edge hardware designed for Indian bikes.  Alerts are delivered through visual/audio cues plus subtle haptic nudges, giving the rider up to 2 extra seconds of reaction time. In city traffic, those 2 seconds can be the difference between a safe ride home and a family waiting for someone who never arrives. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨 : This demo was purposely tested during night rides, when visibility is naturally dull and conditions are most unforgiving. We recreated authentic Indian riding scenarios where blind spots emerge in real time as riders navigate traffic and validated our system across Left Blind Spots, Right Blind Spots, and Dual Blind Spots.
