Updates

  • Public safety is a team effort and our officers are the most visible part of the BPD team, but the work they do would not be possible without the dedication, professionalism, and steady support from our Professional Staff. Yesterday we celebrated them on Administrative Professionals Day with some sweet treats and this message of appreciation. Thank you for the work you do behind the scenes to serve the Boise community.

  • The Boise Police Department is looking for the right person to join our Community Service Officer (CSO) Unit. This position provides a unique opportunity to learn hands-on investigative skills and serve the Boise community in a meaningful way. And if you’re interested in becoming an officer one day or pursuing a career in forensics, this could be your start! • Over the last several months, we’ve been doing a deep dive into our department’s historical archives, and we’ve found that there are countless interesting stories to tell. In honor of Women’s History Month, we thought we’d introduce you to a few of the women who made history here at the Boise Police Department. • Detective Ethel G. Alloway, hired in 1924, was the first female detective for the department with a career that spanned 34 years. • Officer Betty Green, who started in what was considered a clerical position for the department, became a sworn officer in 1962 and was the first female officer in Idaho to receive an Advanced POST Academy certificate. • Captain Danielle Young served the City of Boise for 26 years in a variety of ways, first as a professional staff member in the HR Department and later a Boise Police Officer. She rose through the ranks, becoming BPD’s first female Lieutenant and later our first female Captain, before she retired in 2021. Women play a vital role in the policing profession, bringing fresh ideas, unique perspectives, and valuable life experiences into each call for service, community interaction, and assignment they receive. Today, the Boise Police Department is lucky to employ 28 female sworn officers and 69 female professional staff members. With officer driven ideas and initiatives like the Women in Law Enforcement Career Workshop we hope to see that number continue to grow, not only in Boise, but across the Treasure Valley and State of Idaho.

  • It’s a big game tonight for Boise State! Former Bronco and Boise Police Officer Darren Lee will be there with the team as they get ready to play Utah State. When he’s not helping out Boise State Athletics, he’s protecting and serving the rest of the students and staff at the university.

  • The Boise Police Bomb Squad is a specially trained and nationally certified group of detectives with a very important job. They respond to calls for service across our state involving suspicious devices and explosive materials. As part of their ongoing training, these detectives will build realistic mock devices to simulate real-world scenarios. They use their unique skillset and some pretty awesome tools to safely collect, examine, identify, and render suspicious and explosive devices safe.

  • Overnight, around 1 am, Boise Police officers were called to assist an armed person in crisis on the Connector. Our officers were able to take a calm, compassionate, and tactical approach, thanks to their training in de-escalation and crisis intervention, to safely resolve the situation. Officers utilized a drone to allow for more time and space in their response. They talked with the person over the phone, and through planning and thoughtful communication, officers resolved the situation just after 3 am without incident or injury. We are grateful for the tools, teamwork, and training that help bring these difficult situations to a safe conclusion. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. You are not alone.
