  • In a city known for its skyline, this project added something unexpected: 3.5 acres of green space above it. Originally built in 1921, the Old Chicago Post Office sat vacant for decades before its transformation into a modern workplace. At the heart of that reinvention is The Meadow, a rooftop park spanning the equivalent of four football fields and featuring more than 40,000 plants across 50+ species. Bringing it to life took more than vision. It required deep coordination across disciplines, innovative lightweight soil solutions, and over 3,000 helicopter lifts to deliver materials to the roof all while working within the structural limits of a 100-year-old building. Today, The Meadow is more than an amenity. It’s a functioning ecosystem supporting pollinators, managing stormwater, and creating space for movement, connection, and pause in the middle of downtown Chicago. This National Plant Something Day, it’s a reminder of what’s possible when nature is built into the places we work and gather. 🌱 Hear more about the project at: https://lnkd.in/ebV_KkVt #NationalPlantSomethingDay

  • Great public spaces create energy for the businesses and communities around them. At DuPage Court in downtown Elgin, BEAR Construction helped transform a half-block property into a vibrant gathering space designed to support local restaurants, attract visitors, and enhance the district’s walkability. The revitalized streetscape now features outdoor seating, shade structures, lighting, and community-focused amenities, earning an ACEC Illinois 2025 Engineering Excellence Special Achievement Award. • Hospitals never stop operating which makes renovation work especially complex. For Ascension Saint Mary Hospital, BEAR Construction completed a large-scale project that consolidated key services, expanded patient care areas, and delivered a new MRI suite on an accelerated timeline to keep critical resources available. Thoughtful planning helped ensure the hospital could continue serving patients while improvements moved forward. Read about the project here: https://lnkd.in/gw2Njh-K #HealthcareConstruction

  • A lot of companies like to talk about safety, especially during Safety Week. At BEAR Construction, safety is not a one week campaign or just a buzz word - it’s a 365 day a year commitment to our employees, our partners and our clients. And we have the numbers to back it up.    BEAR’s Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is 0.63, which is well below the industry average of 1.0.   EMR measures a company’s workers’ compensation claims history and safety performance, and is a leading indicator for how serious a company is about safety. A lower score indicates fewer incidents and a stronger safety record. You aren’t given a .63 EMR, you earn it.    For us, this number represents each of our workers, partners and clients returning home safely to their families at the end of each day. That’s the human side of the numbers, and the reason we take safety so seriously. The planning, training and accountability that our teams bring to every jobsite ensures that when you work with BEAR, you’re working with one of the safest firms in the industry.    #ConstructionSafetyWeek #SafetyMetrics

  • As part of our ongoing “Building Green & Healthy Schools” initiative with Milwaukee Public Schools, BEAR Construction recently completed two of five school projects, including Forest Home Avenue School. At Forest Home Avenue School, nearly 40,000 SF of asphalt was transformed into vibrant green space featuring outdoor classrooms, nature play elements, and artistic features. More than 50 stormwater trees, native plantings, a bioswale with underground cistern, and a porous synthetic turf soccer field work together to manage over 150,000 gallons of stormwater per rain event—creating a sustainable, educational, and recreational space for students and the surrounding community.
