  • We’re incredibly proud of Dusty Bedwell, MBA, CFREStephanie MabryTrey Hagins, Jon S., and Zachary Peña for representing Baylor University at the recent CASE District IV conference during “Managing Directions: Leading a Unit By Managing Up, Down, And All Around.” Bringing nearly 70 years of combined experience to the discussion, the group shared thoughtful, practical insight into the realities of unit-based fundraising leadership — from managing relationships across campus to balancing team goals and institutional priorities. We’re grateful for the leadership they continue to bring to the profession and proud to see their expertise shared with colleagues across the industry.

It was great to join Baylor University’s Vice President for Advancement Jason Diffenderfer at the annual CASE District IV conference. Alongside these other university and industry leaders we talked about everything from enrollment and revenue disruption to technology transformation to increasing principal gifts. These are certainly challenging times for higher education and partnering effectively with Advancement will be crucial for our success.

Higher ed isn’t slowly evolving. It’s being forced to change—and the leaders in the room aren’t reacting. They’re driving it. I had the opportunity to moderate a session at the CASE District IV with three outstanding president/advancement pairs—grateful to Harrison Keller, Brandon Buzbee, Linda Livingstone, Jason Diffenderfer, Houston Davis and Mary Bane Lackie for an honest, forward-looking conversation. The tone was clear: We’re in dynamic times—and expectations for advancement have shifted fast. But what stood out most? These leaders aren’t waiting for change. They’re leading it. A few moments that stuck: “Philanthropy should be the margin of excellence…not what we have to do.” “Let’s not endow mediocrity.” “Just because it’s not in the strategic plan doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it—if it strengthens the mission.” There’s real pressure to prove: Time to Value—how long it takes for a student to realize a return on their investment Relevance of programs Responsible use of resources Which is why you’re seeing: Programs being sunset Cost structures addressed earlier Big bets forcing real trade-offs And underneath all of it: Trust. If you’ve built it, you can navigate the hard decisions. If you haven’t, those conversations get very real—very fast. We’re not in a planning problem. We’re in a leadership moment. #casediv #bryantgrp #leadership #moxie #runwithscissors #uncommononpurpose

We’ve officially launched a search for a Major Gift Officer with Baylor University, and I’d be grateful for your help in sharing this opportunity with the right people. To be clear, this role is about far more than fundraising and unlike any other. At Baylor, we believe athletics is a platform to develop holistic student-athletes, grounded in a distinctly Christian mission. And by virture, we are 1-of-1. Philanthropy makes that possible. It funds scholarships, shapes transformative experiences, and equips young men and women with the Word to flourish well beyond graduation and to make their impact on the world. We are very intentionally seeking someone who: -Is deeply aligned with Baylor’s Christian mission -Builds authentic, trust-based relationships -Sees philanthropy as a calling...not just a career Fundraising experience is valuable, but it is not the primary filter. We’re looking for someone who can connect purpose to people and help donors invest in work that is having an eternal impact. If someone comes to mind, I’d be grateful for a referral or introduction. You can learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/gHq-G7Q3 We will start reviewing applications today. Thx in advance for helping us find the right person to advance this mission and serve our student-athletes.
