About us
Aurubis - Metals for Progress Aurubis is undertaking trailblazing work with a new recycling plant in the US: for about € 300 million, the company is building the first secondary smelter specializing in multimetal recycling in the US, thus making a targeted investment in expanding its own recycling business. In the future, a state-of-the-art plant in Augusta (Richmond County) in the state of Georgia will process about 90,000 t of complex recycling materials annually. The plant is a key contribution to Aurubis’ commitment to the circular economy and to the company’s goal of being carbon-neutral well before 2050. The construction started in June 2022. The plant should be commissioned in the first half of 2024. Further information at www.aurubis.com/richmond

Celebrating 160 Years of Multimetal Excellence On April 28, 2026, Aurubis proudly celebrated its 160th birthday—marking more than a century and a half of innovation, growth, and leadership in multimetal. At our Richmond site, employees recognized this milestone following our monthly Town Hall, where David Alexander Schultheis, Richmond President and COO, reflected on Aurubis’ rich history and shared our continued commitment to building a strong, sustainable future. The celebration continued with cookies and punch as we honored both our past and what lies ahead. And we’re just getting started! 🎂 The Richmond team will continue celebrating this historic milestone in the months ahead with fun activities, giveaways, and friendly competitions. Here’s to 160 years—and counting—of shaping the future together. 💙

🌎 Earth Day Augusta 2026 was a blast! 🌱 From 10AM–3PM at the Augusta Common, the community came together to celebrate our planet—and Aurubis Richmond was proud to be one of the event sponsors! Our booth was buzzing all day long with free giveaways like coloring books, sunglasses, candy, and seeds. The real stars, though, were our seven amazing employee volunteers who gave up their Saturday to help set up and run the booth. 💙👏 People were drawn in by the high-energy team, the well-organized setup, the great goodies—and of course, the kid-favorite bubble machine! 🫧😄 A huge thank-you to our volunteers for representing Aurubis Richmond so well and helping make Earth Day Augusta a fun, memorable, and meaningful event for everyone who stopped by.

Copper demand is surging — and the gap between supply and demand is widening. The latest Bloomberg News reportage highlights how AI, data centers, and electrification are accelerating copper demand — while new primary supply takes decades to develop. At Aurubis Richmond, we are addressing this challenge from a different angle. 🔧 By recovering metals from complex recycling materials, we keep valuable resources in the US and feed them back into domestic value chains. ♻️ As highlighted in the Bloomberg piece, recycling alone will not close the gap — but it is the fastest and most resource-efficient way to strengthen supply in the near term. 📈 With Aurubis Richmond, we bring advanced multimetal recycling capacity to the US — processing around 180 000 t of materials annually and producing critical metals for key industries. We are proud that both our CEO Dr. Toralf Haag and our President of Aurubis Richmond, David Schultheis contributed to this important discussion in the reportage — underlining the role of recycling in securing future supply. As our Dr. Haag emphasized, securing access to critical metals is becoming a defining factor for industrial competitiveness — and for national resilience. Confined Space Rescue Training From April 13–15, 17 Aurubis Richmond employees across multiple shifts completed Confined Space Rescue training led by EMED. This training is critical—most confined space injuries and fatalities occur when others rush in to help without proper training or equipment. Prepared rescuers save lives without becoming victims themselves. 👏 Thank you to our EHS team and EMED for strengthening safety where it matters most.
