Astro Mechanica was honored to host Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She toured our machining floor, met with our team, and we collaborated on how our rapid design, iteration, testing, and scaled fielding approach could be expanded nationwide to empower America’s world-class manufacturing talent. In honor of America 250 this year, Astro Mechanica is all in.

Supersonics for the new Jet Age.
About us
Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company building a faster, more connected future. Our mission is to democratize high-speed flight by making supersonic travel flexible, accessible, and sustainable. We believe that rapid, on-demand, point-to-point global mobility will become the new standard for moving people and goods across the planet. To achieve this, we are integrating our advanced airframe and engine technologies—which include Duality™, our proprietary dual-use propulsion system—with a new flight operations model to make supersonic transport as efficient and economical as commercial air travel is today. In the near term, we are developing adaptable, high-speed systems to close aircraft performance gaps for the United States government.

At Astro Mechanica, we move fast by designing, building, and testing continuously. Revel has been a huge asset to our test program. We’re excited to be Revel’s first customer spotlight and proud to have them as a partner.
No one has flown a supersonic commercial flight in over 20 years. Astro Mechanica is building the engines, airframes, and systems, to change that. Before Revel, only one or two people on the team could operate the test stand. Now, any engineer can own the full stack from hardware to software, modify tests on the fly, and monitor live telemetry across every device. The result: 5x more tests per day. Thanks to Matthew Perkins, Mitch Calder, and the rest of the Astro Mechanica team for the partnership. The teams building with Revel are doing some of the most interesting work in hardware right now. More spotlights to come.

It's been 2+ years since S3 last featured Astro Mechanica — they've been quietly building a new vision of supersonic passenger travel. By building electric adaptive engines (efficient at every stage of flight) to reimagining airline economics itself, Ian and team's next step... is taking flight. Full video: https://lnkd.in/gJsURxiv

Astro Mechanica is advancing engines, airframes, and systems for a new age of aerospace. As they developed and tested next-generation engine systems, their team relied on a homegrown control platform, one that required specialized knowledge to operate and maintain, and created a dependency on a small number of people. As a result, even simple changes or test iterations often meant waiting on the few engineers closest to the system, slowing down progress for a fast-moving team. Revel replaced parts of that system and had the engine test stand up and running within just one day, integrating directly with their existing environment. “Revel came in, got us up and running quickly, and made it much easier for our operators to own the test stand directly. It gave us a faster, more intuitive way to iterate without relying on homegrown tooling. As we scale, we’re excited to expand our use of Revel to accelerate our testing and development.” — Matthew Perkins, VP of Engineering, Astro Mechanica Swipe to learn more about how Revel helped Astro Mechanica move at the pace of their hardware program and remove friction from their testing and control workflows. We’re excited to welcome Dr. Stephen Edmonds to Astro Mechanica as our Compressor Expert. Stephen brings 55+ years of experience designing axial-flow compressors. At Pratt & Whitney, his work spanned the F100 (F-15/F-16), F119 (F-22), and F135 (F-35) engine programs, as well as the company’s U.S. Supersonic Transport entry and the J58 (SR-71) redesign. He developed the axial-flow compressor design method behind the F119 and F135 compressors, earning the Pratt & Whitney President’s Award. Stephen later founded Edmonds Consulting Corporation (ECC), where he developed design software validated through wind tunnel testing. This software accurately predicts efficiency, surge margin, and full performance maps, and most recently enabled the design of a high-efficiency 13-stage compressor for Doosan’s 270MW DT6 S1 engine. At Astro Mechanica, Stephen will lead compressor design and development. He will also support engine and business development, drawing on his extensive background in USAF and international programs.

𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. We’re excited to announce our partnership with Astro Mechanica, who are developing a revolutionary supersonic jet engine Helix electric motors are to power Astro Mechanica's proprietary dual-use propulsion system, Duality™; a hybrid-electric engine designed to make on-demand supersonic travel as affordable and accessible as commercial aviation. Our custom-engineered motors deliver 900kW of continuous power, weighing just 61.5kg each, with motor isolation systems built for extreme-altitude operation. This power density is the critical enabler for Astro Mechanica's adaptive engine architecture – operating efficiently from takeoff through Mach 3+. Within a decade, supersonic passenger travel could be within reach. It starts with the right electric propulsion technology. We’re excited to welcome Daniel Witte as Principal Flight Software Engineer to our team. Dan joins us after more than a decade at Meta, where he launched the Ads Manager mobile app and built the team from the ground up. From there, as Director of Software Engineering, he led the 220-person organization responsible for the full stack of advertiser-facing products that generated the majority of the company’s revenue. At Astro Mechanica, Dan will lead the end-to-end development of our flight software stack, bringing his expertise in large-scale, mission-critical systems to the architecture that powers our supersonic aircraft.

We’re thrilled to announce that Sriram Rallabhandi has joined our Airframe team as a Senior Aerodynamics Engineer. Sriram brings nearly two decades of experience from NASA, where he specialized in computational tool development for supersonic aircraft from conceptual through preliminary design. A recognized expert in sonic boom mitigation, he most recently served as a technical lead on the X-59, NASA’s low-boom supersonic demonstrator, integrating CFD for boom reduction and applying advanced simulation tools to its analysis and design. At Astro Mechanica, Sriram will apply his expertise in advancing tools and methods to optimize airframe design and performance.

Supersonic travel has always drawn interest across the aviation industry, but the challenge has been making it efficient. United Airlines Ventures just announced a new investment in Astro Mechanica, a startup developing adaptive engine and airframe technology that tackles this challenge head-on and could transform high-speed air travel. The team and their strategy are equally impressive. They're starting with defense projects to validate the concept, then looking ahead to commercial use. It’s a smart, disciplined approach that UAV is proud to support. Read more about the investment: https://lnkd.in/eR-yC2xG
