About us

Most resorts are hotels with restaurants attached. We're the opposite. Appellation Healdsburg is a culinary-first resort in Sonoma County, founded by Michelin-starred chef Charlie Palmer and luxury hospitality veteran Christopher Hunsberger. Everything we do starts with three questions: Does this honor the people who live and work here? Does it celebrate this place? Does it connect guests to the food, wine, and craft that make wine country what it is? The word "appellation" means to give a name to a place, and Healdsburg has earned its designation as one of California's most celebrated culinary destinations. We're here to amplify that, not replicate it somewhere else.

  • Some news from Healdsburg! Last night, Appellation Healdsburg was named the winner of the New Brand Launch category at the 22nd Annual Hospitality Design Awards! The recognition really belongs to everyone who shaped this place. The architects and designers who drew it. The craftspeople who built it. The team who walks it every morning and turns a building into a place to stay. They're the reason it feels the way it does. Thank you to Hospitality Design | HD Expo for seeing the care that went into every corner of the property. Congratulations to all the other winners and finalists this year. Here's to building places worth coming back to.

Out of more than 850 submissions, our home Appellation Healdsburg has been named a finalist in the New Brand Launch category at the 22nd Annual Hospitality Design Awards, and we're genuinely proud of this one! The Hospitality Design | HD Expo recognize the best in hospitality design across the globe. To be selected as a finalist in our first year, alongside incredible properties and teams who pour the same care into their spaces that we do, is a meaningful marker of how far this project has come. From the walking paths amongst our culinary gardens to the Maker and Artisan Rooms where craft is created, every corner of Appellation was designed with intention. This recognition is a reflection of every person who had a hand in bringing it to life. Congratulations to all of this year's finalists. We look forward to celebrating together, and to our feature in the May/June issue of Hospitality Design magazine.

  • We have just been named Best New Wine Country Property, U.S. by Modern Luxury in their 2026 Travel Awards, and we couldn't be more grateful to the guests, the team, and the community that make this place what it is. From our culinary gardens and open-fire kitchen at Folia Bar & Kitchen to the vineyard views at Andy's Beeline Rooftop, the restorative treatments at Terroir Spa, and the artisan Crafted experiences woven throughout every stay. Appellation was built around a simple belief: that wine country hospitality should feel as meaningful as the landscape that surrounds it. This recognition affirms that we're on the right path. Thank you, Modern Luxury, and thank you to everyone who has made the journey to Healdsburg to experience it firsthand. https://lnkd.in/eUUHuEuj

  • Honored to be the new home of Pigs & Pinot. Grateful to the entire team who made our first one for the books. Year 20, we're ready for you!

The 19th Annual Pigs & Pinot is in the books—and what a milestone it was. This year marked our first at Appellation Healdsburg, a move that felt like a homecoming. After nearly two decades of building this event, hosting it at a property that reflects everything I value in hospitality made this one deeply personal. But Pigs & Pinot has never been about the venue. It's about family, mentorship, and the people who come together to create something extraordinary. Cooking alongside my son Reed Palmer, and watching Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Tim Ryan do the same with their sons—Byron, E.J., Cédric, and Jackson—was a reminder of why we started this event in the first place. Legacy isn't just what you build. It's what you pass on. This year also marked a first: an all-female Gala winemaker lineup. Eva Dehlinger, Perri Haughwout, Heidi von der Mehden, Anne Moller-Racke, and Ashley Herzberg brought wines that elevated every course and made history in the process. Thank you to Mario Cantone for hosting Table Talk, to Jesse Katz of The Setting Wines for joining the panel, and to Allen Brothers 1893 for donating all the pork for the weekend. Gratitude to every sponsor, partner, and guest who made this possible—Gozney, WhistlePig Whiskey, Hestan Culinary, Williams-Sonoma, Inc., Big Green Egg, Tahoe Artesian Water, MustHaveMenus, Zwiesel Fortessa Americas LLC, John Anthony Wines, Greenleaf Tea, Oeno Vaults, Boos Blocks, Stay Healdsburg, and Jake Messing for the custom designs. To everyone who joined us, poured with us, and cooked with us—thank you. Save the date: Pigs & Pinot turns 20 on March 19–20, 2027. See you then.

  • We’re proud to partner with Canine Companions® to host our second monthly Yappy Hour at Appellation Healdsburg 🐾 On Thursday, February 5, we’re bringing our dog-loving community together for a pup-friendly evening designed for guests who believe great hospitality includes four-legged friends. Yappy Hour is our way of creating a welcoming, relaxed and dog-friendly Thursday night experience—where dogs are celebrated, connections are made, and giving back is part of the plan. A portion of proceeds will benefit Canine Companions and their incredible work providing expertly trained service dogs, with special support from Innumero Wines and Healdsburg's pet boutique, Fideaux. Join us for community, purpose, and pups. https://lnkd.in/gR2xPAWB

  • At the heart of Pigs & Pinot is something larger than a weekend of extraordinary food and wine. Each year, the event fuels the work of the Palmer Family Education Foundation. A nonprofit committed to expanding access to education in hospitality, culinary arts, wine, and the creative fields. What does that look like in practice? It's a $50,000 matched scholarship helping a student attend the The Culinary Institute of America. It's covering the entrance fee for an aspiring sommelier to take their first Court of Master Sommeliers exam. It's wine business education at Sonoma State University, WSET certification through Odyssey Wine Academy, and arts and music programs at the Healdsburg Center for the Arts and Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, classes, camps, and performances that reach learners of all ages. These aren't abstract investments. They're the future chefs, winemakers, hospitality professionals, and artists who shape the cultural fabric of our region and our industry. As Pigs & Pinot moves to our home, Appellation Healdsburg this March, this purpose remains at the center of everything. The celebration is extraordinary. The impact reaches even further.
