💛 What does "sensory friendly" actually look like? We’re inside the Children’s Museum of Richmond Chesterfield location exploring how thoughtful resources can support children with sensory sensitivities in real and practical ways. Think sensory backpacks with calming tools, art materials that allow for different ways of creating, and quiet spaces where kids can take a breath and reset. These small choices add up to something that feels more accessible and welcoming for every child. We’re excited to partner with our Sensory Friendly Nights sponsor, AnswersNow, to highlight how intentional environments can support children in feeling safe, included, and ready to explore.

Today is the last day of Autism Acceptance Month, and I've been thinking a lot about what I want to say. So much of what has been circulating online recently feels heavy and far removed from what truly matters. What I know is this: the autism community is extraordinary. The passion that I see from our families, kiddos, BCBAs, team members, payor partners, referring physicians - it is all incredible. I wrote a few reflections on what this month means to me, especially the progress we’ve made toward a more inclusive world, some of the stories this month that moved me, and how the people in this community continue to inspire me each and every day.

Great to see some positivity in the news yesterday in the NYT. It follows the heartwarming story of Joseph Valentino, an autistic young man who spent years being turned away from kitchen jobs, struggling to find a place where he felt welcome. At one point, he even came to see himself as a liability. Today, he works at a fine dining restaurant in Manhattan, and his story is one of the inspirations for Chefs on the Spectrum, a new program that trains and places autistic adults in professional kitchens. The chefs who work alongside people like Joseph describe them as meticulous, consistent, deeply knowledgeable, and creatively inventive. So glad to see this incredible program take root, and so happy to see that stories like Joseph's are getting the spotlight they deserve, especially during Autism Acceptance Month! Dropped a link in the comments below for those who want to read the full story.
