Hunger shows up in exam rooms every day. The Congressional Hunger Center is making sure health care professionals are ready to respond. With a $510,450 #NourishingNeighbors Spark Grant from Albertsons Companies and the Albertsons Companies Foundation, the Congressional Hunger Center will expand its Zero Hunger Academy to create accredited continuing education courses for physicians, nurses, dentists, and social workers. Nourishing Neighbors Spark Grants invest in bold ideas that address the root causes of food insecurity, not just the symptoms. By equipping health care providers with a deeper understanding of hunger, nutrition access, and federal nutrition programs, this work strengthens the connection between health, policy, and food security. We are proud to support the Congressional Hunger Center as they help build the knowledge and momentum needed to end hunger. We’re raising the bar for fresh. Albertsons Companies has launched a new, patent-pending Intelligent Quality Control tool that uses AI and computer vision to strengthen produce quality and consistency across our supply chain. Built in house by our technology and supply chain teams and powered by Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise, this tool supports our distribution center quality inspectors by delivering more consistent ratings, faster decision-making and deeper quality insights for fresh produce. Early results are already showing meaningful impact. This is another example of how we’re applying AI in practical ways to support our associates, improve product quality and deliver fresher food to customers every day. Ending hunger takes collaboration. We’re thankful for the nonprofit partners who make up the Albertsons Companies Foundation Nourishing Neighbors Consortium, and for their shared commitment to learning, alignment, and collective action to advance long‑term solutions to hunger.
I’m honored to share that I was recently elected Vice Chair of the Nourishing Neighbors Consortium in my role at Hunger Free Vermont, alongside nonprofit partners from across the country working to advance long-term, systemic solutions to hunger. Last week, I had the opportunity to gather with fellow consortium partners in Washington, DC to share learning, align priorities, and strengthen the relationships that make this work possible. One of the things I value most about the Consortium is its commitment to collaboration over silos. Organizations addressing hunger from many different angles are coming together around a shared belief that lasting change requires collective action. The Nourishing Neighbors Consortium’s purpose is ambitious and critical: to end hunger in America by leveraging our resources and knowledge to cultivate sustainable and creative solutions, change minds, and drive collective action. I’m deeply grateful for this community of partners and for #NourishingNeighbors and #AlbertsonsCompaniesFoundation for investing in and convening this work. In a moment when so many families are struggling and the future of nutrition programs feels uncertain, collaboration like this matters more than ever. Together, we are building the relationships, alignment, and collective voice needed to create lasting change. #CollectiveAction #AntiHunger #FoodSecurity #NonprofitLeadership #PolicyAndProgress #Shaws #AlbertsonsCompanies
