After attending both California Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention (CSHA) and California Association for Behavior Analysis Conference (CalABA), one theme kept coming up again and again: connection. In pediatric therapy, connection is everything. It’s how clinicians build trust, how families feel supported, and how meaningful progress begins. But connection isn’t always straightforward. Every family comes with their own language, culture, and lived experiences, and those differences shape how they communicate, engage, and access care. Across sessions and conversations at both conferences, there was a clear focus on strengthening that connection through cultural understanding, language accessibility, and meeting families where they are.
