Veteran Spotlight: Meet Jeffery. Vietnam-era Navy veteran. Retired physician. He and his wife Yoshi spent three and a half years traveling overland — Nepal, India, across Africa by truck. He started medical school at 40. A 2019 sledding accident brought him home to a power wheelchair. Today his world is smaller — but his caregivers through the VA's HHHA program get him outside every day, and he is handwriting a memoir he says will take several volumes. Near the end of our visit he nodded at his wife and said it simply: "That's what's keeping me alive. This lady. My caregiver. The grandkids. And writing down all the stuff we've done." We are proud to support veterans like Jeffrey across King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties. Full story is linked in the comments 🎖️

About us
At Acti-Kare, great home care is built on trust, follow-through, and heart — and we're committed to doing this work the right way for our clients, our caregivers, and our community. Acti-Kare Responsive In-Home Care provides professional, relationship-driven senior care, elder care, and in-home care for older adults across King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties — including Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Bothell, Everett, Tacoma, and surrounding Puget Sound communities. Families often reach out because they don't know where to start. A parent just came home from the hospital. A dementia diagnosis has changed everything. We help families understand what care is needed, what's available, and how to move forward — without figuring it out alone. Our services: In-home care | Senior care | Elder care | Personal care | Companion care | Dementia care | Alzheimer's care | Memory care | Respite care | Post-hospital recovery | Chronic condition support | Daily living assistance Our caregivers are trained, vetted, and dependable - we strive to only hire caregivers we would want to care for our OWN parents. Families have access to 24/7 live local support — not a call center. When something changes, a real team who knows your situation responds. We work closely with families, healthcare professionals, elder law attorneys, and discharge planners to build care plans that work in real life. Proud of the connections we're building in this community. Wes and Debbie represented Acti-Kare at the Fred Hutch luncheon last Friday - great conversations and a good reminder of how fast the science is moving. Thank you Vanessa and Banister Advisors®for the invitation!
Spent part of Friday at the Fred Hutch annual luncheon with a room full of people from healthcare, law, financial planning, and caregiving. The part that stuck with me was hearing researchers walk through how new diagnostic approaches are cutting certain testing timelines from days or weeks down to hours. If you're the patient waiting on those results, weeks to hours is a big deal. After spending many years in technology and operations before jumping into home care and business ownership, it’s genuinely interesting to watch those same disciplines show up in places where the stakes are this human. Great table, great conversations. Thanks to Vanessa Laughlin for the invitation and for bringing together such a thoughtful mix of people!

Caregiver Spotlight: Meet Jane, Our May 2026 Caregiver of the Month In home care, dependability isn’t just a nice quality. It’s a safety issue. When a caregiver calls out unexpectedly, families scramble. It’s one of the most common and painful pressure points in this industry. Jane has been with our team for over a year. In that time, she has never once called off or missed a shift. She also communicates proactively with our office about her clients — flagging concerns, advocating for their needs, making sure nothing falls through the cracks. She prioritizes her clients’ wellbeing above her own preferences, consistently and without complaint. Earlier this year, Jane faced a genuinely difficult situation with one of her clients. She stayed calm and reassuring. Her client had the best possible outcome — and the family reached out personally to express their gratitude. “She is one of our most dependable caregivers, full of empathy. Our clients are lucky to have her.” Jane, congratulations — and thank you. Our clients and their families in Renton and across King County are better because you chose this work. If your family is navigating the search for in-home care in Renton or the greater Seattle area, we would be glad to help. Most families learn what home care is at the worst possible moment. Not before a health event. Not during a calm planning conversation. At the moment they realize their parent can’t safely be left alone — and they have no idea where to turn. I’ve had that conversation more times than I can count over the past decade. And the thing families need most in that moment isn’t a sales pitch. It’s clarity. So we made a short video — 80 seconds — that explains the difference between home care and home health, what Medicare covers (and what it doesn’t), and how to know which type of help a family actually needs. For anyone working with families in this moment — discharge planners, social workers, elder law attorneys, primary care teams — feel free to share this. It’s the clearest version of this explanation I know how to give. 🔗 Full guide + video in the comments. Acti-Kare serves King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties. Free in-home assessments. 425-419-4452

Home care pricing in the Seattle area is genuinely confusing — and the internet makes it worse. National averages don't tell you what families in Bellevue or Everett actually pay. Private caregiver marketplace listings aren't the same as licensed agency care. And most articles online never explain what's actually included in the price. Here's what I see families navigate regularly: licensed home care agency rates in the Puget Sound region typically **start** in the mid $40s per hour but go up based on location and hours.. What really changes the cost? Shift length. Location. Level of care. Urgency. And whether there are benefits — VA, long-term care insurance, Medicaid, or WA Cares (launching July 2026) — that could offset what families pay out of pocket. We put together a full breakdown for Puget Sound families — typical local pricing, real-life planning examples, payment options, and questions to ask before choosing an agency. Debbie and Wes visited the care management team at Swedish Cherry Hill Seattle today — and walked away from one of those conversations you don't want to end. When the topic of VA benefits came up, the whole team leaned in. We work with a lot of complex VA cases and love sharing our expertise with care teams who are trying to figure out the best options for their patients. That kind of collaboration is what makes a real difference for families. The flowers were a hit too. Cherry Hill team: expect a fresh delivery from our family farm this summer. 🌸 Thank you, Cherry Hill, for the welcome and the great questions!

Choosing a home care agency? Here’s a question most families don’t think to ask… Who answers the phone when you call? Is it someone local who knows your situation? A team that communicates and stays in the loop? Or a call center… miles away? Maybe even AI? Because when something goes wrong or you need answers, you don’t want to feel like just another number. You want someone who knows your family and can actually help in the moment The quality of care often shows up in the little things like this. 🎥 The full conversation linked below #HomeCare #SeniorCare #ChoosingCare #LocalSupport #HomeCareAgency
