Veteran Spotlight: Meet Jeffery. Vietnam-era Navy veteran. Retired physician. He and his wife Yoshi spent three and a half years traveling overland — Nepal, India, across Africa by truck. He started medical school at 40. A 2019 sledding accident brought him home to a power wheelchair. Today his world is smaller — but his caregivers through the VA's HHHA program get him outside every day, and he is handwriting a memoir he says will take several volumes. Near the end of our visit he nodded at his wife and said it simply: "That's what's keeping me alive. This lady. My caregiver. The grandkids. And writing down all the stuff we've done." Debbie and Wes visited the care management team at Swedish Cherry Hill Seattle today — and walked away from one of those conversations you don't want to end.
