SUMMARY

Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006 fixes are distributed in service packs. Service packs keep a product current. Service packs may also include updates, system administration tools, drivers, and additional components. These are conveniently bundled for easy downloading.

Service packs are cumulative. Each new service pack contains all the fixes that are included in previous service packs, together with any new fixes. You do not have to install a previous service pack before you install the latest service pack.

Data Protection Manager 2006 SP1 includes the following features.
  • Support for x64-based file servers

    You can use DPM 2006 SP1 to help protect x64-based computers. These are computers that are running 64-bit processors that use the extended x86 instruction set.
  • Support for clustered file servers

    In DPM 2006 SP1, you can install the file agent on a server that is a member of a server cluster. Therefore, you can help protect all the shares or the volumes that are currently hosted on the physical node on which the agent is installed.
  • Support for Single Instance Store (SIS)-enabled servers

    DPM 2006 SP1 installs a filter to enable DPM 2006 to protect servers that have SIS-enabled volumes.
  • Support for Microsoft Update

    When you install DPM 2006 SP1, you can opt into the Microsoft Update service. This service from Microsoft delivers required updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
