It's been a few days since last week's annual BIBA Conference in Manchester. The first time I have attended as a Partner for Thistle Initiatives, and a first time for my colleagues Harry Cotton and Sam Coe to experience this iconic industry event. BIBA will always hold a special place in my heart, and it was lovely to catch up with so many people genuinely interested in what we are building within Thistle in the insurance space in terms of compliance, M&A support, and change & transformation consultancy. I've always held a firm belief that compliance and commercial strategy belong hand in hand, and whether I was talking to brokers, MGAs, insurers, Trade Associations or the Regulator, it was clear how far our industry has progressed in aligning consumer outcomes at all levels. I was delighted to attend the Women In Insurance breakfast, it's an area that I have championed throughout my own 30+ year insurance career and it's fantastic to see such diversity and so many young people coming through who see a positive career opportunity of their own here. Well done to the BIBA Conference organisers, and a big thank you to Aviva Broker UK for the hospitality and looking after us so well.

The scope is wider and includes marketing, consent, fees, lead generation and operational resilience. This is not a consultation. The FCA has signalled enforcement action and possible legislative change. The FCA's conduct concerns are specific:   • Consumers signed up without consent, including via social media   • Aggressive and misleading marketing   • Multiple representation, consumers unknowingly instructing more than one CMC   • Unfair fees and exit charges   • Lead generators explicitly in scope   • Operational and financial resilience weaknesses For CMCs, the question now is whether your practices would stand up to scrutiny and whether you can evidence that. We are supporting firms both before and during FCA engagement. If you want a confidential conversation about where you stand, we are happy to talk. Link to the full breakdown in the comments.
