Siloed data is the single biggest blocker to getting value from AI Our Global Head of Data Transformation, Kristy Mayer-Mejia, was recently featured on the Databricks blog discussing the reality of enterprise AI. Now imagine that… but with EVs, heat pumps, and every low-carbon device switching on, every day 🚗🔥 That presents the energy system with a challenge - and a huge opportunity to leverage flexibility and unlock capacity. With real-time visibility, intelligent price signals and consumer-first products, we can shift load, ease congestion, use more renewables and keep people firmly in control 💜 The grid is changing. Flexibility is how we make it work. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

⚡ Utilities are using pricing to shape demand, not just recover costs. Time-of-use and dynamic rates can shift load, lower system costs, and support a more flexible grid overall. But legacy billing systems weren’t built for this level of complexity. And it’s slowing everything down – making it difficult to update rates, launch new ones or scale dynamic pricing models. Even with 80% of U.S. customers on smart meters, only ~10% are on time-varying rates. Modern billing platforms are changing what’s possible 🔌 Kraken’s customer platform is helping utilities roll out and adapt complex rate designs like crisis-response pricing and dynamic EV tariffs in weeks, not years. And if you want innovative rates, you need modern billing.

The grid is under pressure. ⚡ Aging infrastructure, rising demand from EVs and data centers, and more intermittent renewables are making reliability harder to maintain. Flexibility is quickly becoming one of the most effective tools utilities have. With the right software, everyday devices can support the grid at scale. 🚗 Shifting EV charging away from peak times ☀️ Balancing solar, batteries, and heat pumps 🔌 Reducing strain without new infrastructure The results speak for themselves. Kraken is helping to shift peak EV demand by 42% in the UK, saving £2bn in infrastructure and energy costs, while lowering bills for customers. And globally, we’re already flexing up to 4.2GWh of EV charging. A more reliable grid is already within reach 🌍
