Hello network 👋🏼 It’s been a while and i’ve been meaning to be more active here. So i’m back with a topic that has been rather prevalent lately! For those recruiting in the US is anyone else seeing more “polished” but misleading engineering profiles? 🇺🇸 I’ve been working the US market heavily over the last 6+ months partnering with high growth VC backed startups and I’ve been seeing more and more engineers quietly swap their real employer for a “better” brand on LinkedIn - big tech logos or A‑tier startups - just to get past the first filter. I get why it’s happening. There is still bias toward certain companies and locations, and strong engineers do get overlooked because they don’t have the “right” logos. But changing your current role or inventing experience isn’t just “optimising” your profile - it then crosses into dishonesty and makes it harder to trust what we’re seeing, especially with fake/AI‑generated candidates genuinely on the rise. A few things I’ve started doing more of: ➡️ Checking LinkedIn post/comment history and overall footprint. ➡️ Looking for real projects, GitHub links or anything that shows their work. ➡️ Asking very specific questions about the teams they’ve sat in and how those teams are structured. Even on live video, it’s getting harder to be sure who’s genuine and who isn’t - and when you’re working with high‑calibre startups, this is becoming very common. Curious if others are experiencing this too and what else are you doing to validate identity and experience for US engineering roles, especially if remote? 💡- I wonder if LinkedIn can implement some sort of verification checks when an individual lists a company on their profile perhaps verifying by a company email address. 💭 #techjobs #siliconvalley #identification
