About us
The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) is an independent philanthropic organisation, with offices in Addis Ababa, Beijing, London, Nairobi and New Delhi. CIFF works with a wide range of partners seeking to transform and empower the lives of children in developing countries, with the ultimate goal of solving seemingly intractable challenges to ensure all children have the chance to survive and thrive. CIFF aims to play a catalytic role as a funder and influencer to deliver urgent and systemic change at scale. Areas of work include empowering adolescents to control their sexual and reproductive health and to avoid unwanted pregnancies and HIV/AIDS; improving children and mothers’ health and nutrition and increasing deworming efforts to break transmission for good; and seeking an equitable world for girls and young women. CIFF’s climate portfolio is driven by a vision of a climate-safe future for today’s children and future generations that also bears the benefits of cleaner air, energy security and sustainable jobs. CIFF’s child protection work focuses on ending child labour and sexual exploitation by enabling an environment that reduces vulnerability of communities and safeguards children. The Foundation places significant emphasis on quality data and evidence. For most of its grants, CIFF works with partners to measure and evaluate progress to achieve large-scale and sustainable impact. The organisation is committed to sharing as much information as possible about what they and their partners are learning. Founded in 2002, CIFF employs over 130 professionals in China, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, and the UK. CIFF strives to couple business acumen and principles with development experience and best practices to transform the landscape for children. It seeks to be the gold standard in grant making and foundation operations. For more information please visit www.ciff.org

Thank you to Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, South African Government, Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and British International Investment for hosting the #GlobalPartnershipsConference to highlight how innovative finance, new technologies and local leadership can unlock broader development impact. We hosted a side event to explore how the next generation of finance and tech can go even further. Our panel underscored how catalytic financing and responsible technology partnerships can accelerate country-led outcomes across health, nutrition and education. Many thanks to our panellists Richard Matikanya, Toby Norman, Dianne Stewart and to our moderator Sebastian Meaney. We also welcomed insights from Andrew Mitchell MP, The ONE Campaign’s Kerezhi Sebany, MedAccess UK's CEO Michael Anderson CB and Nicholas Vaughan.

At the start of the UK Global Partnerships Conference 2026, CIFF’s CEO, Kate Hampton, emphasised that the role of philanthropy is to support and strengthen the capacity of governments to deliver, led by national priorities, and working in partnership, to place children at the centre. She reminded the audience that, ultimately, it is outcomes for people that justifies work in the development sector, and that if the sector can establish a better way of working, it will be reflected in the improved lives, dignity, opportunities, and joy of children around the world. For this conference, CIFF partnered with the UK Government Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Government ZA, and British International Investment, to bring together diverse stakeholders to reimagine the future of development cooperation and international partnerships. Whilst the UK Global Partnerships Conference continues in London, global health leaders are also gathering in Geneva for the World Health Organization's 79th World Health Assembly. Alongside this, an official side event hosted by Ted Herbosa, Minister of Health for the Government of the Philippines, brought attention to Violence Against children a critical health concern. Violence against children affects up to one billion children every year, causing long-term hard to physical and mental health. Following this side event, Sophie Hodder, CIFF’s Director of Girl Capital will meet with Dr. Herbosa to discuss one of the most pervasive forms of this violence is child marriage. Today, an estimated 40 million girls are living in marriages or unions formed during childhood, with around 12 million more married each year. Later this year, the Government of the Philippines will host an important convening on the importance of tackling child marriage as a priority for ending violence against children globally. The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation is glad to see this issue being elevated during the World Health Assembly, and to work alongside partners to strengthen the global response to violence against children. In the opening plenary of the Global Partnerships Conference, Yolanda, representing the Youth Conference Group, shared a powerful reminder of what meaningful partnership must look like in practice. Launching a 10-point plan developed by children and young people across the globe, the message was clear: this reflects the realities and challenges young people face every day and the solutions they are already driving. As Yolanda put it: “We are not passive beneficiaries, we are rightful partners whose expertise is essential to any solution.” “Across contexts, young people are already leading change as innovators, advocates, and problem solvers in their communities. But real partnership requires more than simply listening. Real partnership means trusting young people with influence, leadership, and decision-making power, because the decisions we make today will shape the future.” Alongside clear actions in the 10-point-plan, young people have made it clear what they want from their role in global development. They want: • Power, not only participation • Investment, not inspiration • Protection, not praise • Action, not apathy • Trust, not silence Click here to read the full 10-point plan: https://lnkd.in/gDUzXqpk #GlobalPartnershipsConference #YouthLeadership #InternationalDevelopment #ForEveryChild #SystemsChange

As the Global Partnerships Conference begins, our collective credibility depends on whether we deliver tangible benefits to people’s lives. CIFF is co-hosting because we know our goal - to create a world where children are healthy, safe and have opportunities - cannot be achieved by philanthropy alone. In the words of Birmingham’s current Poet Laureate, Ayan Aden: "opportunity should be every child's birthright." As put by Kate Hampton, CIFF CEO, as philanthropy, our role is to support and strengthen the capacity of governments to deliver, led by national priorities, and working in partnership to place children at the centre. Ultimately, it is performance for people that justifies our presence. If we can establish a better way of working, it will be reflected in the improved lives, dignity, opportunities, and joy of children around the world. For this conference, we have partnered with the UK Government Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Government ZA, and the British International Investment, to bring together diverse stakeholders to reimagine the future of development cooperation and international partnerships. As education systems face increasing fiscal pressure, how can financing models evolve to deliver better outcomes for children and young people? Ahead of the Global Partnerships Conference, this conversation offers a timely example of how new financing models are shaping development. Sunday Times Giving List: “I’m not doing this for publicity, but to see if I can encourage others to give.” Thanks to the increasing philanthropic giving of our founder, CIFF is able to scale its charitable commitments and accelerate progress towards our goal of improving the lives of children. Humanity has made incredible progress in recent decades, such as reducing child mortality by 60% since 1990 and, in this century, reducing the share of children living in severe deprivation by a third. Progress, however, has not been felt equally. Where a child grows up still shapes their chances: both of survival and their opportunities to thrive. No one should be comfortable with that fact. That’s why we are scaling our philanthropic efforts as we seek to tackle the challenges children face holistically. This means going beyond ‘traditional’ children’s issues - whether it’s strengthening primary health care, enabling opportunities and choice for women and girls or tackling climate change. And we will continue to work with dedicated partners around the world as we collectively ensure that all children have the opportunity to flourish. https://lnkd.in/emxf7Cez Nick Rodrigues | #Philanthropy | #GivingList

In a compelling new essay for Devex, U.K. Minister of State for International Development and Africa Jennifer Chapman (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) argues that with an annual financing gap of $1.3 trillion in Africa alone, continuing to work in the same way and expecting different results is “no longer defensible.” As economic integration is increasingly used as a weapon of geopolitical competition, the global community must work harder than ever to achieve progress through cooperation, co-creation, and coalition. In the lead-up to next week's Global Partnerships Conference, hosted by the U.K. together with South Africa, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and British International Investment, Baroness Chapman outlines a future where international development and diplomacy are aligned to deliver both impact and influence. For the U.K., this means being willing to convene without controlling, shifting power and resources closer to the countries and local leaders best placed to deliver. By focusing on strengthening domestic systems and unlocking private finance, these new partnerships ensure that low- and middle-income countries act as stakeholders rather than spectators in their own development paradigms. This is the fourth piece produced in partnership with the Children's Investment Fund Foundation as part of our new series, The Next Frontier: Reimagining Financing for Development and Growth, convening diverse global voices to redefine collaboration and unlock capital for future growth.
