This Earth Day, the theme is "Our Power, Our Planet", focusing on how renewable energy can help shape a better future. At Beryl, we’ve been exploring how to put that into practice. In partnership with Cornwall Council, and supported by the UK Government’s Transport Decarbonisation Demonstrators programme (via Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and Innovate UK), we’ve launched a UK-first solar-powered pilot in Cornwall, designed to support e-bike charging using renewable energy, without relying on the grid. Delivering shared transport isn’t just about the vehicles; it’s about the infrastructure behind them. And by introducing solar-powered charging hubs, this pilot is helping to: • Reduce operational vehicle trips • Improve bike availability (a key barrier for 54% of riders) • Support regional carbon reduction goals With road transport accounting for over a quarter of emissions in Cornwall, and many journeys under three miles, the benefits of improving our operational efficiency and environmental impact are pretty significant. 👉 Read more about the project: https://lnkd.in/eswZGaCA

We’re proud to be launching in a new location, offering residents and visitors a simple and flexible way to get around, without relying on a car. From Canterbury’s historic streets to the riverside route along the Great Stour Way, and journeys between the University of Kent and the city centre, our shared bikes make it easier to move around quickly and sustainably. Working closely with Canterbury City Council towards a shared goal of reducing congestion, improving air quality and creating healthier streets in Canterbury, we’re excited about the start of this long-term partnership. Today is the day! We’re proud to launch e-scooters in Leeds for the very first time, a major milestone for both the city and the future of UK micromobility. This is the first e-scooter trial approved since 2020 and reflects the growing role of multi-modal transport in creating cleaner and more connected cities. We’re introducing an initial fleet of 100 e-scooters that will join the existing LNER Beryl Bikes, providing residents and visitors with even more choice when it comes to low-cost, low-emission travel, particularly for those crucial first and last mile journeys. Our dock-to-dock model, supported by a ready-built network of bays, is designed to keep streets organised while laying the groundwork for the safe and simple integration of e-scooters into the UK’s wider transport landscape. A huge thank you to our partners London North Eastern Railway, Leeds City Council, and to West Yorkshire Combined Authority for their continued support. A new chapter for sustainable transport in Bradford is here! Delivered in partnership with London North Eastern Railway and Bradford Council, LNER Bradford Beryl Bikes have landed to provide a new, sustainable transport option designed to support everyday journeys. The introduction of e-bikes marks an important milestone for Bradford’s active travel ambitions. Electric assist makes cycling more accessible, helping riders roll uphill and travel further. By reducing barriers to cycling, we’re contributing to local carbon reduction goals. Find out more about the launch here: https://lnkd.in/eM6jd3Fz

We're going to be excited about this news for a while! 🙌

We've launched a new pedal bike with latest technology and features. The bike has always-on connectivity and tracking, integrated hub locking enabling remote and app unlocking. It works with docks or geo-fencing too. The economics on e-bikes and e-scooters means we can operate without on-going subsidy in lots of places but many of our local authority customers still value subsiding pedal bikes to offer the cheapest possible journey for residents and visitors. And in some places, folks like a leisurely pootle on a pedal bike. https://lnkd.in/ekgi7e4c

Belfast leads the way with the landing of our next-generation pedal bike. They're here! This week marks the launch of Beryl’s all-new connected pedal bike, with Frank and Honest Belfast Bikes proudly becoming the first scheme to introduce it on-street with the support of Belfast City Council. Here at Beryl, we love pedal bikes as they are a vital part of city transport networks; affordable, accessible and zero-emission. But historically, they haven’t always had the same level of technology, data or management tools as electric fleets. And that's exactly what we set out to change. Designed and built in-house, our new pedal bike brings improved connectivity, advanced geofencing, remote hub-locking and better safety features into a lightweight, easy-to-ride design. Let us know if you've spotted your first one yet. 👀 #SharedMobility #ActiveTravel #SustainableTransport #Micromobility #PublicTransport #Belfast

Shared micromobility steers the UK’s modal shift, finds Beryl. Surveying more than 11,300 users, Beryl’s latest Rider Report finds that over 60% of riders replaced a car, van or taxi journey with a Beryl vehicle in 2025 - a 6% increase compared with 2024. "While it's encouraging that 62% of our riders are already replacing car journeys with Beryl trips, the greatest barrier stopping more people from making this switch remains clear: the lack of safe, segregated cycle infrastructure across much of the UK. People want to cycle and use shared micromobility but they need to feel safe doing so. Our message to policymakers is clear: be bold and build the lanes. But crucially, build them intelligently,” Beryl CEO Philip Ellis told Zag Daily. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eNPrUHYw

From “new” to essential: what our latest Rider Report tells us... It’s official; the novelty phase is over. Shared micromobility is now a routine, trusted part of modern life. With 11,375 responses across 17 UK locations, this year’s Rider Report provides a comprehensive dataset, while remaining tightly focused on the realities of the UK market. That focus allows us to go deeper and offer clearer insight into how micromobility actually works here. Our report dives into rider behaviour, not just pedalling on the surface. And while we’ll let the numbers do most of the talking, they tell a clear story: shared bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters are now an embedded part of how we move every day. What we found… 📈 A real, measurable shift away from cars This is the strongest evidence yet that micromobility isn’t just complementing car travel, it’s actively replacing it. Nearly two-thirds of riders (62%) told us their Beryl journey replaced one that would otherwise have been made by a car, van or taxi. If we’re serious about decarbonising urban travel, this is exactly the kind of change cities need to see. 🏆 From backup option to first choice Convenience now tops the list of reasons people ride with us, cited by 45% of users. More telling still, 41% say Beryl is their first choice for their most common journeys. That’s a big shift in mindset. People aren’t just hopping on when they’re stuck, they’re planning their journey around us. ⚡ E-bikes are doing the heavy lifting When riders are free to choose, e-bikes come out on top. Over half (55%) say they prefer them, showing just how well electric assistance meets real-world needs; longer distances, hills, busy days, and everything in between. 💸 Affordable transport where it matters most Beryl is playing an important role for people who need accessible, low-cost transport options. 14% of our riders have a household income under £13,000, and 11% identify as having a disability. With convenience (45%) and affordability (32%) both ranking highly, shared micromobility is proving its value during a tough cost-of-living period. 🌱 Building habits for the next generation This isn’t a passing trend. Young people make up the core of our rider base, with 58% under the age of 35, showing that sustainable transport choices are becoming foundational habits, not short-term alternatives. The next generation isn’t waiting for change; they’re already riding it. Of course, none of this happens by accident. A huge thank you to our riders, our partners and local authorities, and our incredibly committed team, whose work behind the scenes makes this scale of impact possible. Green Friday is back, our annual reminder that sustainable travel doesn’t have to take a back seat (or should we say saddle) during the Black Friday rush. By making carbon-emission-free transport appealing, affordable and accessible, we’re helping riders make choices that benefit both their wallets and their city. Collectively, we can make sustainable travel the easy choice, even at the busiest time of the retail calendar. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ewghNc68

Calling all policymakers, transport planners, active travel champions and shared mobility partners! Our Annual Rider Survey is live, and it’s the most important piece of evidence we produce each year. Last year’s responses helped identify trends in commuting habits, first-time rider barriers, and the role shared transport plays in reducing carbon emissions. If you work in transport policy, local government or the wider active travel sector, we’d love your support in sharing the survey within your networks.
