Contextualising #Research Outputs in #Africa We, at AiS, believe that #Africa cannot afford to let its research ecosystems be assessed through frameworks blind to its #demographic gravity. We argue that ‘per capita’ #metrics enable fairer cross-country comparisons, and uncovering hidden efficiencies. It’s not about privileging #size over #quality, but about grounding evaluations in the continent’s lived realities by ensuring that research #funding aligns with the scale of challenges faced by Africa’s billion-strong #population. Critics would argue that it disadvantages smaller #countries. On the contrary, a ‘per capita’-adjusted model creates a balanced system that gives #visibility to smaller nations. AiS is an independent, volunteer-led #thinktank that utilises a #data-driven mechanism to uncover under-researched topics in Africa. The AiS Team: James O., Jimmy Nkaiwuatei, Rhoda A. Mensah, PhD, Prince Nana Amaniampong, Ph.D. - HDR, MRSC, Soulaymane Abiadou, Adeoluwa Adeboye, Dejene Techane, Olanike Adelakun, Ph.D, Cyril D. Think Tanks
AiS is a datahub, database & thinktank that monitors the scientific output of academic institutes in Africa.
About us
Africa In Science (AiS) is an online datahub, Africa-centric database and think-tank that tracks the publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles by institutes in Africa, uncovers under-researched topics in the continent, and relates the scientific output of Africa-based institutes to education, human development and socio-economic status. AiS website, at www.africainscience.org, serves as a knowledge hub that utilises an Africa-centric database to present a unique blend of scientometric analysis and metrics, with the aim to uncover under-researched topics in the continent and to inform scientists, governments, organisations, funding bodies, philanthropists as well as the public in Africa and around the globe about the output and merit of scientific research in Africa. AiS think-tank uses a data-driven, evidence-based mechanism to understand better the impact of education, human development and socio-economic status on scientific research in Africa, with the aim to aid efficient allocation of funding, subsidies and investment in science in Africa.
