Rohingya women and girls in Myanmar’s Rakhine State are facing escalating sexual violence in areas under Arakan Army (AA) control, including rape, gang rape and torture, according to a report by the Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK) released on May 14. Amid mass displacement and worsening humanitarian conditions, the report says sexual violence — and the threat of sexual violence — are being used as tools as part of a broader system of intimidation and control targeting the Muslim ethnic minority group. Sexual violence has long been weaponised against the Rohingya in predominantly Buddhist Myanmar, where they have faced decades of violence, including during the 2017 genocide. Nearly a decade later, accountability remains absent, while Rohingya communities continue to face systematic persecution, discrimination, denial of citizenship and severe restrictions imposed by both the Myanmarese army and the Arakan Army. Sexual violence during conflict violates international humanitarian law and may amount to crimes against humanity, war crimes and acts of genocide.

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has published a report on what it describes as “secular pro-Palestinian extremism” in the country. In a new move aimed at cracking down on pro-Palestine advocacy, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) listed a series of symbols it associates with “extremism.” Handala was described as being associated with “Palestinian resistance,” the watermelon symbol was characterized as “denying Israel’s right to exist,” and the term “intifada” was described as expressing “sympathy for acts of violence”

Seventy-eight years after the Nakba, Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, Gaza and abroad are still living through its aftermath. On May 15, 1948, Zionist militias displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes, villages and land, turning an entire people into refugees almost overnight. What Palestinians call the Nakba, or “catastrophe”, never truly ended. Today, much of the occupied West Bank remains under Israeli control while Gaza endures a relentless assault and mass displacement. For many Palestinians, the scenes unfolding now are not separate from 1948, but a continuation of it.

In West Jerusalem, a small ultra-Orthodox Jewish group rejects the State of Israel — not as a political position, but as a matter of faith. Neturei Karta has maintained this stance for decades, setting it apart from other Orthodox communities that engage with and even support the state in various ways. Here is more on the group’s origins, beliefs, and place within the deeply divided landscape of the Jewish world ⏯️ Watch here: https://trt.world/cfmn
