| File format | Example value |

Note: TSV (tab separated) text file is recommended. Header: Format the attribute header by including the sub-attributes you’re submitting. Include product detail Value: Format the value by submitting the value of each sub-attribute listed in the same order as in the header and separated by a colon ( For example, to submit attribute_name and attribute_value: Header: Possible value: If you name the sub-attributes you're using in the header, you can give them to us in any order. However, if you don’t name them (and only provide the attribute name), we’ll assume that your attribute values include the required sub-attributes in this order:
For example, to submit section name, attribute_name, and attribute_value: Header: Possible value: If you don’t need to provide the section name Header: Possible values: [product_detail]" in the "Needs attention" tab. |

To format your data for Merchant API, view the Merchant API for Shopping resource.
Important: As this is a repeated group attribute, pay careful attention to the formatting requirements when your sub-attribute values contain special characters (colons, commas, quotes, and backslashes). Refer to the detailed formatting example at the end of this article.
- For text feeds, follow the detailed instructions related to quoted attributes in text feeds.
- We recommend using the TSV (tab-separate values) format for text files instead of CSV (comma-separated values) due to complexities of processing the comma symbol.
Minimum requirements
These are the requirements you'll need to meet to show your product. If you don't follow these requirements, we'll disapprove your product and let you know in your Merchant Center account.
When submitting text feeds, make sure to format product details correctly
Each product detail [product_detail] attribute must contain 2 colons to separate the three sub-attributes.
- Avoid adding information covered in other attributes or promotion text. Don’t add information such as price, sale price, sale dates, shipping, delivery date, other time-related information, or your company’s name. Include this information with the other attributes such as sale price
[sale_price]or shipping[shipping]. - Only provide an attribute name and value when the value is confirmed. For example, for a food product, only provide “
Vegetarian:False” if it is confirmed the product is indeed not vegetarian, and not just because "False" is the default value for Boolean attributes. - Avoid listing keywords or search terms. Only list relevant details and specifications of the product.

Best practices
These best practices can help you go beyond the basic requirements to optimize your product data for performance.
- Use the attribute for a wide variety of product-specific information that is relevant for a customer, for example: package contents, connectivity, ingredient lists, installation instructions, power requirements, feature lists.
- This attribute can also be used to submit salient products fact and features as key-value pairs, for example:
- Shape: To describe the shape of a product, e.g., a piece of art or furniture
- Occasion: Special occasion(s) the product is intended for, e.g., celebrations or holidays
- Sport: Certain sport(s) the product is intended for
- Finish: The external treatment(s) of the product to change its appearance or texture, e.g. for furniture
- Activity: An activity/activities for which the product is intended, e.g., gardening
- Format: The format of the product, e.g., for books or media such as music
- Theme: A theme that your product is associated with
- Scent: Scent(s) or fragrances (s) of the product
- Flavor: Flavor(s) or taste of the product
- Use sentence case when submitting values for the attribute. For example, use “Focal length” rather than “focal length” or “Focal Length”.
- Don't use search engine optimization (SEO) keywords.
- Check for errors in grammar, spelling, or capitalization.
- Don't duplicate data within the attribute or data that you have already submitted in other attributes, such as title
[title], description[description], question_and_answer[question_and_answer], or product highlight[product_highlight]. - Don't submit if you are also submitting the document link
[document_link]attribute and the same information can be found in these documents. We will extract FAQ information from those documents instead.

Formatting using a tab-separated text file
You’d submit this in one cell like this (note that values containing commas and colons are quoted, and that quotes are double quoted). Tab characters are represented by the <tab> symbol:
|
Header: …<tab>product_detai<tab>… product row: …<tab>Connectivity:Connectivity Technology:"HDMI, NFC, USB",Connectivity:Wireless Technology:BuiltIn 802.11b/g/n with NFC,Connectivity:Video Output:Type C Mini HDMI,Connectivity:Total Video Out Ports:2,Memory:Flash Memory Type:"Single Slot: SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I)",Memory:Recording Capacity:30 Minutes,Memory:Write Speed:Several MB/s to over 100 MB/s,Memory:Windows Directory:"C:\\camera\defaults",Camera Settings:Metering Methods:"average,multi-zone,partial,spot",Camera Settings:Exposure Control:"Auto, Manual, Program, Shutter Priority",Camera Settings:Crop Mode:"APS-C max. 12""",:What's in the box?:"Camera Body,Lens,Battery pack,Manual",:Warranty:1 year manufacturer,:Best Sellers Rank:"#1,065 in Electronics,#1 in DSLR Cameras"<tab>… |
Alternatively, you can also create multiple separate columns, each containing one or more values. For example, to have one column for each section, you can submit this in 4 tab-separated columns as follows:
|
Header: …<tab>product_detail <tab>product_detail<tab>product_detail<tab>product_detail<tab>… Product row: …<tab>Connectivity:Connectivity Technology:"HDMI, NFC, USB",Connectivity:Wireless Technology:BuiltIn 802.11b/g/n with NFC,Connectivity:Video Output:Type C Mini HDMI,Connectivity:Total Video Out Ports:2<tab>Memory:Flash Memory Type:"Single Slot: SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I)",Memory:Recording Capacity:30 Minutes,Memory:Write Speed:Several MB/s to over 100 MB/s,Memory:Windows Directory:"C:\\camera\defaults"<tab>Camera Settings:Metering Methods:"average,multi-zone,partial,spot",Camera Settings:Exposure Control:"Auto, Manual, Program, Shutter Priority",Camera Settings:Crop Mode:"APS-C max. 12"""<tab>:What's in the box?:"Camera Body,Lens,Battery pack,Manual",:Warranty:1 year manufacturer,:Best Sellers Rank:"#1,065 in Electronics,#1 in DSLR Cameras"<tab>… |
Lastly, you can also submit each value in its individual column, in which case you would need 14 columns as follows (only 3 columns shown), with a tab separating each column:
|
Header: …<tab>product_detail <tab>product_detail<tab>product_detail<tab>… Product row: …<tab>Connectivity:Connectivity Technology:"HDMI, NFC, USB"<tab>Connectivity:Wireless Technology:BuiltIn 802.11b/g/n with NFC<tab>Connectivity:Video Output:Type C Mini HDMI <tab>… |
Formatting using a Google sheet
You’d submit this in one cell like this. (Note the escaping of commas, colons, and backslashes that are part of the attribute value, indicated in red in the above table, with a backslash (\):
