Express long-haul dark fiber infrastructure in the Nordics

Om oss

Eastern Light's main product is dark fiber. Customers are hyperscalers, cloud providers, international and national operators, and other organizations with special requirements for controlling their own physical fiber routes and needs for robust and secure data communication. Customers acquire fiber capacity through long-term agreements or leases and install their own active equipment in Eastern Light’s purpose-built telecom facilities along the routes, enabling a fully controlled end-to-end communication service. Eastern Light designs routes for maximum efficiency between data centers, remaining fully agnostic about deployment methods — whether that means submarine or terrestrial cables. Eastern Light constructed the first new fiber optic submarine cable system between Sweden and Finland in more than a decade, operational since 2019. Over the coming years, Eastern Light will significantly expand its network across the Nordics to meet growing demand for international long-haul dark fiber. By building express fiber highways across the region, Eastern Light is reshaping how backbone infrastructure is developed in the Nordics. • Eastern Light makes the front page of @Dagens Nyheter! DN covers Eastern Light's new build-out in “The Nordic Corridor” — a brand-new fiber connection between Sweden and Finland https://lnkd.in/dSCWCA2c Eastern Light already operates the SF-I submarine cable between Sweden and Finland, carrying 144 fibers. A new connection, SF-II, is now being built, adding another 288 fibers through a combination of land-based fiber and submarine cable. Together, the two systems form "The Nordic Corridor". The system provides enough capacity that digital communications between Sweden and Finland are not expected to be limited by fiber infrastructure for the foreseeable future. The project represents an investment of approximately €30 million. "We're seeing rapidly growing demand for digital capacity in the Baltic Sea region, driven primarily by the surge in data center investment across the Nordics. Several of the existing cable systems are aging and starting to reach full utilization. That's why we need to expand digital capacity between countries. "The Nordic Corridor" is an important step toward meeting that demand," says @Mikael Vesterlund, COO of Eastern Light. #EasternLight #Infrastructure #Digitalization #BalticSea #Security #datacenter #seacable

Not every project can be done from a single vessel. This week, we’re starting the installation of a fiber optic cable in the Stockholm archipelago where the first 10 kilometers aren’t accessible for the vessel. So we adapt. A barge handles the shallow section to the first landfall, while the vessel continues toward the next. Two units. One workflow. Efficient, every step of the way. #BalticOffshore #FiberOptics #SubseaCable #DigitalInfrastructure #Offshore #CableInstallation

  • Something big is happening beneath the cold waters of the Baltic Sea.   Following the success of our SF-I system between Stockholm and Helsinki, Eastern Light is taking the next major step in strengthening Nordic connectivity. We are about to announce the deployment of our newest Baltic Sea fiber system featuring the highest fiber-count in the entire region.   Why this matters: High-capacity fiber is no longer enough. To keep up with today's demands, route diversity has become a necessity. This new 339 km subsea route is engineered to withstand the toughest conditions, ensuring a new level of resilience for the Nordic digital ecosystem. This is more than just a cable; it’s a new chapter in Nordic connectivity.   Want to hear the full story? We are unveiling more details next week! Our team will be on the ground to discuss how this expansion can support your capacity needs:   📍 CCT Nordic | Oslo 📍 DC Forum | Helsinki   @CCT Events @Datacenter Forum   Let’s connect, touch-base and explore the future of fiber infrastructure. See you there!   #EasternLight #FiberInfrastructure #SubseaCable #Digitalinfrastructure #DataCenters #BalticSea #CCTNordic #DCForum #itwtelecoms #capacityeurope

  • Eastern Light strengthens its presence in Helsinki with new connection to Telia/Arelion’s hub at Iso Roobertinkatu 21. Eastern Light continues to expand its Nordic dark fiber infrastructure. To meet rising demand on its Stockholm (Equinix SK2) – Helsinki subsea system (“SF-I”), the shortest existing fiber route between the two capitals, the company has established a new south‑bound sea cable in eastern Helsinki, connecting directly to Telia/Arelion’s major communications hub at Iso Roobertinkatu 21. Eastern Light is already present in the Finnish capital through its sites at Kiviaidankatu 2 and Equinix HE6, and this new connection further strengthens its position as an independent provider of high‑capacity, low‑latency fiber routes across the region. “This is an important step for us and for our customers,” said Mikael Vesterlund, COO at Eastern Light. “By adding this link, we can offer more customers a fully redundant route between the capitals of Sweden and Finland, ensuring even greater availability, resilience, and flexibility — not only for long-haul connectivity but also for metro diversity within the region.” The new connection is part of Eastern Light’s long‑term initiative “Nordic Link” — a network of unique, express dark‑fiber routes interconnecting the largest data centers across the Nordics, designed to deliver the performance and scalability required for tomorrow’s data‑driven world.
