𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗: PH fast-tracking FTAs with EU, Chile The Philippines wants to fast-track its respective free trade agreements (FTAs) with the European Union (EU) and Chile. “We hope to conclude the EU FTA by July,” Trade Secretary Cristina Roque told reporters on Wednesday. “Then we sign it next year, but [better] if we can sign this year.” The sixth round of negotiations for the PH-EU FTA was held May 18 to 22 in Manila. 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: The Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce of the Philippines (JFC) convened for its monthly meeting on 21 May, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines at the Manila Elks Club in Makati City, to discuss industry developments and shared priority areas. During the meeting, the group focused on key topics including updates regarding the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) processes, the Department of Finance’s planned adoption of GloBE Rules, as well as initial planning for this year’s Arangkada Forum. The ECCP further provided inputs on the 6th round of negotiations surrounding the European Union-Philippines Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the recent political movements in the Senate of the Philippines, and a pending policy proposal on BPO onshoring put forward by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). ECCP President Paulo Duarte, Executive Director Florian Gottein, and Director for Advocacy and Government Affairs Atty. Kathyrin Pioquinto participated in this engagement on behalf of the Chamber. 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 | On 21 May 2026, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines met with Secretary Kiko Benitez and the leadership team of TESDA: Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to discuss ongoing and future collaboration on skilling and workforce development initiatives between TESDA and European firms operating in the Philippines, as well as TESDA’s priorities and strategies in relation to the EU–Philippines Free Trade Agreement. The meeting was facilitated by ECCP President Paulo Duarte. The meeting concluded with several actionable points that the ECCP and TESDA will collaborate on in the coming months to further support skills development and industry innovation in the Philippines. Also present from TESDA were Deputy Director General Nelly Dillera, Executive Director Atty. Gio Gomez, Executive Director Charlyn Justimbaste, alongside members of the Office of the Secretary: Rohi Yocariza, Emmie Orbon, Tuesday Lagman, Onofre Fernandez, and Andrea Adorio.
