Thank you for your patience: the Henderson AM transmission site upgrade is complete.   Over the past month, RNZ has decommissioned and replaced the 92-year-old northern mast and removed the 71-year-old southern mast at our Henderson transmission site serving the wider Auckland region. Standing at 122 metres and 153 metres high respectively this was no easy task.   A crane was used to remove the old northern mast and install a new northern mast while a helicopter was required to remove the top sections of the higher southern mast before the crane was again deployed to remove the rest of the mast.    The project pushed the boundaries of practical engineering, supporting 8 AM radio services from a single mast. Internationally, it’s rare to run this many AM services from one mast, with most networks opting to build additional structures instead.   A complex project like this requires all teams working collectively and RNZ is thankful to the following companies that worked alongside us in the project.   Kordia Incite - Resource and Environmental Management NZI (New Zealand Insulators) ENGEO NZ & AU Harrison Grierson DIALOG Fitzroy Ltd Cooke Industries Limited NZ Earthco Civil Ltd Universal Cranes NZ Advanced Flight Ltd. RF Test Solutions Ltd Watch the drone footage of the careful dismantling of the old northern mast and the installation of the new northern mast below, as well as the timelapse of the whole project on You Tube here: https://lnkd.in/ebAzQGi2 The completion of the project means RNZ National listeners on 756 AM have had their service restored, no more outages! Thanks very much for your patience supporting this important work that ensures resilience for the Auckland region for RNZ’s vital emergency broadcasting function.

Fantastic to hear about the positive experience Angela Frecklington is having at Kordia. Angela joined us for a MISSION READY internship in our Operational Support Systems team to help us automate reporting. Mission Ready is a New Zealand tech‑career accelerator that includes a mentored work‑experience phase, giving interns the chance to build hands‑on, project‑based skills with support from their Mission Ready mentor. Welcome Angela! https://lnkd.in/eQdss3SD

A little progress update! Three weeks into my internship at Kordia and honestly… I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot with the team I’ve landed in 🤩 Everyone has been so welcoming, supportive, and generous with their time and knowledge. Starting out, my project felt sooooo overwhelming. There were so many systems, platforms, and moving parts to learn that at first I wondered how I was ever going to make sense of it all! But after a couple of weeks getting to know the company, learning the platforms, and understanding how everything connects together, things are really starting to click. I’m feeling so much more confident and I’m now working my way through my project with a completely different mindset. One thing I’m learning quickly is that growth really does happen outside your comfort zone. The moments that feel overwhelming at the start are often the moments where you learn the most. Grateful for the opportunity, the support around me, and excited for what the next few weeks will bring 💫 MISSION READY #Internship #MissionReady #DataAnalytics #WomenInTech #CareerTransition #Kordia

Almost 1 in 6 cyber incidents in New Zealand now involve AI misuse or a vulnerability. That's not a future risk. It's what our 2026 NZ Business Cyber Security Report found is already happening across large organisations right now. And yet 24% of business leaders say improper use of AI within their own organisation is a top barrier to improving their cyber security posture. The tools being used to drive productivity are, in some cases, also becoming the attack surface. Shadow AI is a growing contributor to data exposure. When staff use unapproved tools outside of IT visibility, sensitive data can be stored, reused, or accessed in ways the organisation never intended. A clear AI usage policy is one of the most practical things you can put in place right now. Our updated checklist shows you where to start. Does your organisation have a clear AI policy in place? AI features are no longer limited to ChatGPT and obvious GenAI tools. They're embedded in the cloud services, SaaS platforms, and everyday software your teams already use. Without a clear framework, those risks grow quietly in the background. Kordia's updated AI Usage Policy Checklist gives you a practical starting point. Grounded in leading international AI governance frameworks, it covers how to scope your policy, set expectations for staff, govern organisational AI purchases, and measure what's working. “So Directors, your time to act is now.” In the latest episode of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand Board Talk - Off the Cuff podcast, Aura Information Security Managing Director Patrick Sharp joins Susan Cuthbert MInstD, Principal Advisor – Governance Leadership Centre, IoD, and Shayne Hunter, Company Director, to unpack why cyber security is now one of the most critical governance risks facing boards and directors across New Zealand: https://lnkd.in/er_8wU4T

“Trust and verify… ask all the right questions, but be prepared to verify,” says company director Shayne Hunter who assisted the Waikato DHB during what was considered New Zealand’s worst ever ransomware attack in 2021. The incident is fresh in Hunter’s mind as he recalls what it was like when reality hit and what it meant to deal with the attack in real time – an experience he wouldn’t wish upon anyone. Listen to the latest episode of Board Talk: Off the Cuff and learn more about how boards can work with management on a response. Hear from Susan Cuthbert (Principal Advisor – Governance Leadership Centre at IoD) about how we are supporting boards to ensure policy and regulation settings are appropriate for directors, and Patrick Sharp (General Manager – Aura Information Security) from Kordia explains how attackers identify security weaknesses and the global scale of attacks. The critical work that the Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) provides keeping people safe on the water was highlighted over the weekend. The MOC is being upgraded so it can continue to improve the service provided across 30 million square kilometres, from the Tasman Sea to halfway to Chile and from the South Pole almost up to the Equator. Thank you Brendan Comerford and Neil Livingston for your insights on this critical service. https://lnkd.in/eJFxbGdT
