Finance Director

Positie

As Finance Director, you are responsible for the overall finance function within the Dutch organisation and operate within an international matrix environment. You work closely with local leadership and international finance stakeholders and contribute directly to business performance, decision-making, and organisational development.

This is not a traditional finance role centred around reporting and control. The organisation is looking to further strengthen Finance as a commercially minded and trusted business partner, with stronger alignment between financial insight and operational decision making.

You act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team, translating financial performance into actionable insights and supporting the business on growth, margin, risk, and performance. At the same time, you play a key role in further developing the finance organisation, including team development, business partnering, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The environment is dynamic and evolving, with ongoing organisational development, increasing international alignment, and continued growth. The role, therefore, requires a finance leader who combines a strategic perspective with a pragmatic and hands-on approach.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted business partner to the leadership team
• Translate financial results into actionable insights and business guidance
• Support and challenge business and project leaders on performance, margin, risk, and growth
• Lead, develop, and further professionalise the finance team
• Strengthen business partnering and ownership within Finance
• Ensure a solid financial foundation, including reporting, controls, and compliance
• Drive finance-related improvement and change initiatives
• Navigate effectively within an international stakeholder environment

You are a strong and credible finance leader with a clear business mindset. You combine solid financial expertise with the ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and operate close to the business. You are approachable, communicative, and able to create trust and alignment across different levels of the organisation. At the same time, you are pragmatic, hands-on, and comfortable operating in an environment where not everything is yet fully defined. You enjoy building and improving teams, structures, and ways of working, while balancing strategic perspective with operational involvement where needed.

Background and experience

• Academic degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, combined with a recognised financial qualification (RA, RC, ACCA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role, such as Finance Director, CFO, or Country Finance Director
• Strong track record in business partnering and stakeholder management
• Experience in leading and developing finance teams
• Experience within an international or matrix environment
• Experience with organisational change, process optimisation, or finance transformation initiatives
• Familiarity with project-based or services-driven business models is considered a strong advantage
• Fluent in both Dutch and English (An excellent command of the Dutch language is mandatory!)
