NITI Aayog convened a high-level meeting chaired by Dr. Joram Aniya, Member, NITI Aayog, to deliberate on the establishment of the Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh (ITA), envisioned as a dedicated State-level policy think tank for strategic planning, evidence-based policymaking, and long-term socio-economic transformation in Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting witnessed participation from Smt. Nidhi Chhibber, CEO, NITI Aayog; Mr. Sonam Chombay, Commissioner (Planning), Government of Arunachal Pradesh; Major General K. Narayanan, State Adviser (Arunachal Pradesh); Programme Directors for North-Eastern States; and senior officials of NITI Aayog. Mr. Sonam Chombay delivered a presentation highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s hydropower potential, connectivity gains, emerging opportunities, and key developmental challenges. The proposed Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh (ITA), with its apex structure to be chaired by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, aims to support the State across key sectors. Smt. NITI Aayog organised a two-day National Workshop on “Grassroots Innovation Pathways – From Local Resilience to National Advancements” on 19–20 May 2026 at Science City, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in collaboration with the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) and the National Innovation Foundation – India. The workshop was graced by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Science & Technology, Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia, Minister for Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, and Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Former Member, NITI Aayog. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Science & Technology, highlighted the importance of grassroots innovation in advancing self-reliance and inclusive development. Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia, Minister for Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, emphasised the need for stronger institutional support systems for grassroots innovators. Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Former Member, NITI Aayog, observed that India’s innovation landscape must increasingly integrate local knowledge systems and community-led problem-solving approaches within mainstream development planning. The workshop featured discussions on institutional enablers, regional innovation ecosystems, and pathways for accelerating grassroots innovations.
