For the first time in Israel and the Middle East, robotic cardiac surgery has been performed at Sheba Medical Center, in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic's Prof. Marc Gillinov — one of the world's most experienced surgeons in robotic mitral valve surgery. Leading the procedure were Prof. Erez Kachel, Deputy Director of Cardiac Surgery at Sheba, and Prof. Leonid Sternik, Senior Cardiac Surgeon at Sheba. This procedure marks a new chapter in cardiac care: less invasive, lower-risk, and now accessible to cardiac patients who were previously considered too high-risk for conventional surgery. This #InternationalNursesDay, we highlight the essential role nurses play in shaping healthcare. At Sheba Medical Center, we understand that nurses are not only caregivers. They are central to improving how care is delivered, experienced, and continuously refined. Through the “Nurse of the Future” initiative, nurses take part in structured, hands-on projects that address real workflow challenges and improve patient outcomes. This practical approach allows them to turn everyday insights into meaningful change. This program is part of Sheba’s broader effort to elevate nursing as a strategic pillar of its clinical and innovation agenda, ensuring that nursing perspectives are embedded wherever care is planned, measured, and redesigned. Because when nurses are empowered to lead, the entire system moves forward. Learn more about this meaningful program: https://lnkd.in/gbDNSaDS

It is both a source of immense pride and truly heartwarming to see an entire community rallying behind the work at Sheba's Back to Life Clinic, headed by the incredible Dr. Noya Shilo. Last week, a series of three impactful events took place across Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, featuring Dr. Noya Shilo and Fauda star Lior Raz, who shared their personal reflections on a challenge so many in Israel have been facing since October 7th: navigating the path through trauma toward recovery. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Shilo for travelling all the way from Israel to Canada to share her vital work in caring for those who have endured profound trauma. A special thank you to Lior Raz for sharing his personal experiences — ones that have shaped the man he is today. Heartfelt thanks to the Canadian Friends of Sheba Medical Center: Einat Enbar, CEO, Daryl Roitman, Board Chairman, and the entire team, for organizing these remarkable events and bringing together our dedicated supporters across Canada. Thank you to Ben Mulroney and Rick Campanelli for so warmly hosting these evenings, bringing your special talent to turn every conversation into a powerful discussion. To everyone who joined and showed their support: thank you for standing with Sheba and helping bring hope, healing, and strength to those who need it most. Nadav Ben Yosef Prof. Yitshak Kreiss

Today marks #WorldLupusDay, an important day to raise awareness of a complex and challenging autoimmune disease. A few years ago, CAR-T therapy was first used to treat refractory lupus, with promising results. Following this development, medical centers around the world began exploring how this advanced approach could be applied to autoimmune diseases. At Sheba Medical Center, we are proud to be among the first to explore how CAR T-cell therapy can be used beyond cancer, including for autoimmune diseases such as lupus. As the first medical center in Israel to apply this approach for autoimmune conditions, and with independent cellular manufacturing capabilities, we remain dedicated to further study and develop these therapies. Led by Prof. Merav Lidar, Director of the Rheumatology Unit, our CAR-T research program for autoimmune diseases focuses on patients who have exhausted standard treatment options. This therapy offers new hope for lupus patients worldwide who have exhausted traditional treatment options. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gPfgumC3

On #WorldOvarianCancerDay, we raise awareness of a disease that is often diagnosed at advanced stages, underscoring the need for continued progress in detection and treatment. At Sheba Medical Center, ovarian cancer care is guided by a multidisciplinary team, bringing together oncology, genetics, and research to tailor treatment to each patient. This approach includes advanced therapies such as immunotherapy and targeted treatments, alongside surgery, chemotherapy, and hormone-based therapies. By combining multiple modalities and tailoring care to each patient, medical teams aim to improve outcomes while minimizing unnecessary side effects. Today, we join the global effort to raise awareness and support patients, families, and healthcare professionals working toward better diagnosis and treatment.
