The setting has no effect. Direct updates to the system tables are not supported. > [!IMPORTANT] > [!INCLUDE[ssNoteDepFutureAvoid](../../includes/ssnotedepfutureavoid-md.md)] Changing the **allow updates** option will cause the RECONFIGURE statement to fail.
