# OriginalValue and UnderlyingValue Properties Example (VC++)
This example demonstrates the [OriginalValue](../../../ado/reference/ado-api/originalvalue-property-ado.md) and [UnderlyingValue](../../../ado/reference/ado-api/underlyingvalue-property.md) properties by displaying a message if a record's underlying data has changed during a [Recordset](../../../ado/reference/ado-api/recordset-object-ado.md) batch update.
