[!INCLUDEappliesto-ss-xxxx-xxxx-xxx-md] Before you can connect to a [!INCLUDEssNoVersion] Utility, you must create a utility control point (UCP). For more information, see SQL Server Utility Features and Tasks.
To view and manage [!INCLUDEssNoVersion] resource health, use [!INCLUDEssManStudioFull] (SSMS) to connect to a [!INCLUDEssNoVersion] Utility.
To connect to a [!INCLUDEssNoVersion] Utility through SSMS:

Launch SSMS.

In SSMS, connect to an instance of [!INCLUDEssNoVersion].

Click View and then Utility Explorer.

In the Utility Explorer navigation pane, click
Connect to Utility. -
In the Connect to Server dialog box, specify the UCP instance name, then click Connect.

View the Utility Explorer Navigation Pane to see a tree view of [!INCLUDEssNoVersion] resources in the UCP.
Creating a new UCP also connects you to the [!INCLUDEssNoVersion] Utility. For more information, see Create a SQL Server Utility Control Point (SQL Server Utility).
