SAGA has been selected to work on European Space Agency - ESA’s Lunar Remote Camp Study, along with The Exploration Company and Space Applications Services NV/SA. 🌖 Together, we will be working on a robotic-first #infrastructure shelter #concept study for the lunar surface with future expansion into crewed shelters. The project envisions a deployable shelter, designed as a protected service hub near landers and operation zones, shielding equipment from extreme temperatures, dust, radiation, and micrometeoroids while providing core support like storage, thermal control, power, and communications. ⭐We are thrilled to work with two inspiring and talented partners, as this will be an important #research for #robotic #lunar exploration and short-duration human habitation. *The image is a preliminary artistic representation of a robotic asset shelter with potential extension to a crew shelter. This is not a depiction of the study’s final outcome.

We design architecture for outer space and planet earth.
Om os
SAGA is founded by the two Danish architects - Karl-Johan Sørensen and Sebastian Aristotelis. One of our fundamental values as architects is to always start from scratch. At SAGA we want to use the spectacular challenges space has to offer as an advantage. By thinking about what the near future might bring, we can experiment with the way humanity could live in outer space. We approach exploration from a human perspective, where mental well-being and social sustainability is part of the life-support equation. Examining the fundamental conditions of a given site and letting go of all assumptions enables us to build visionary and sensitive buildings, perfectly fit for space as well as planet Earth. 💧 Here is our new project, Amaravati Spa in Southern Vietnam. Spanning 2000 square meters, the project merges the history of local brick #craftsmanship with a self-written science fiction narrative, creating a sanctuary that feels otherworldly. The #landscape around the Amaravati begins with a structured arrival sequence shaped as a temple courtyard, using clear geometry, framed views, and defined stone surfaces to guide visitors into the spa. As the visitors navigate into the spa, each room carries its own balance between openness and retreat, with broad volumes that invite shared experiences and smaller pockets that offer shelter within the same space. Simultaneously, light, movement, and digital techniques are used to shape the spaces. The sensory rooms are further shaping the visitor's journey, as each room focuses on a single sensation, shifting the mood and creating a unique #experience.

The first of three research papers from the UHAB-1 project has been published in collaboration with researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 🙌 During the 2023 UHAB-1 mission, we collected physiological and performance data to explore how humans respond to confined and #extreme #environments relevant to spaceflight. The study showed that key physiological parameters remained within normal ranges, supporting underwater habitation as a useful spaceflight analog, while also identifying CO₂ management as a critical challenge for future habitats. This publication marks an important step in building the scientific foundation for future underwater and #space habitat development. We look forward to sharing the next two UHAB-1 research papers soon! 📃You can read the entire paper here: https://lnkd.in/eKnvZvvZ

Finally! After 6 years of working remotely on developing lighting solutions for Earth and space, we finally met Daniel Han in person from Yuji Lighting at Light + Build, to showcase the circadian lighting. The same lighting system that is on the International Space Station**** (ISS) today! It has been a great partnership and we can’t wait for the next many years of working together!🚀

SAGA is looking for a freelance cartoonist / illustrator to collaborate on a graphic #novel project. Think of both captivating environments and character storytelling. Both digital and analog workflows are welcome. ⭐️We encourage student and junior artists to apply as well! 📬If you have examples of character work, objects, or environments, please send your #portfolio + references to jobs@saga.dk.

Have you got what it takes to go to the Moon?🚀 SAGA has been featured in the BBC Future! The article explores what it takes to thrive on the Moon - the psychology of confinement, the “small annoyances,” and why #analog missions on Earth matter when designing habitats that feel like home. It is incredible that with projects like LUNARK, we have been able to test these realities first-hand and turn extremes into insights that have helped to shape our latest #habitat iterations for #Artemis missions. 👉You can read the article here: https://lnkd.in/e5CWPdRu

We are ready to introduce our newest project, FLEXHab extension. After completing the #FLEXHab astronaut training habitat, we are now adding two new structures: Airlock Simulator and Connector Hallway. The extension will be connecting the LUNA facilities, and improving the #astronaut training simulation loop. 🧑🚀 We are prefabricating the #extension #structures in our workshop in Copenhagen and will transport the extension to LUNA early this spring. 👉 It’s exciting working on a project together again with European Space Agency - ESA and German Aerospace Center (DLR). We can’t wait to share progress updates soon!

Episode 3 of the LUNARK mission🇬🇱 One of the primary goals of the #expedition was to explore and test the lighting conditions in the dark polar night. With the same challenge in #space, establishing a lighting solution that would help to mimic a normal circadian rhythm was essential, so we created a first iteration of our #circadian #light. It was crude but improved the living conditions significantly. The success on LUNARK expedition, resulted in the circadian light being tested on the #ISS by Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen and other NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and European astronauts Currently, the light is being tested by an American astronaut.🧑🚀 👉The story continues!
