𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻? #WorldMetrologyDay Without metrology, there would be no safe airplanes, no pacemakers, no smartphones. On World #Metrology Day, we remind ourselves of just how much depends on a single measurement. We make the invisible visible. Take an aircraft engine—thousands of parts, manufactured all over the world by different manufacturers. To ensure everything fits together in the end, a common understanding of metrology is required—compliant with standards, reproducible, and traceable. Exactly. That’s our everyday reality at Mahr, since 1861. Where do you encounter metrology in your daily life without immediately realizing it? #QualityAssurance

𝗔 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱—𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆, 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗲𝘀 One avoidable failure is one too many. The traditional method of using thread gauges is proven—but time-consuming and costly. Each thread type requires its own gauge. In mass production, the costs add up quickly. With optical shaft and cylindrical coordinate measuring machines—such as the MarShaft SCOPE plus—the usable length of external #threads can be measured fully automatically in just a few seconds. No manual setup, no issues with rotational position. The key difference: The #MarWin EasyShaft #software rotates the component up to 360° during measurement while capturing a large number of images. From these, the cumulative external and internal profiles are automatically calculated—regardless of the specific measurement position. 👉 Learn more about this topic. The link is in the comments.

𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 – 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲) 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻? #TheMoreYouMeasure A component falls within the tolerance—so is everything okay? Not necessarily. Because before a measurement result can be evaluated, one thing must first be clear: Is the measurement system used even suitable for this task? ➡️ What does measurement system analysis mean in metrology? Measurement system analysis (#MSA) determines whether a measuring system is reliable enough for a specific measurement task. It examines how accurate, repeatable, and reproducible a measurement system is—in other words, whether different measurements actually yield comparable results. To do this, both calibrated parts and real parts are measured under real-world conditions, for example, by different operators. The key factor here is that the measurement system’s variation should be as small as possible relative to the part tolerance—a value below 10% is often considered the target. 🔍 Why is this so important in #practice? If the measurement system itself varies too much compared to the tolerance, measurement results can quickly be misinterpreted. In the worst case, good parts are rejected or defective parts are approved. Measurement system capability provides the necessary assurance for sound quality decisions. 👉 Do you base your evaluation solely on the measured value (the tolerance)—or have you performed a measurement system capability analysis for your measurement tasks?

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴—𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴? Data is generated in every production environment. The crucial question is: Is it truly understood—or merely transmitted? #OPCUA Companion Specifications hold the key to the answer. They ensure that machines from different manufacturers not only communicate with one another but also understand each other—semantically unambiguous, without proprietary interfaces. The result: less engineering effort, faster commissioning, and significantly higher data quality—as the foundation for AI, automation, and scalable production. Our partner VDMA has thoroughly analyzed the economic potential of Companion Specifications—from concrete practical examples to solution approaches for integration into existing system landscapes. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/et4FRqTS

In mass production, every additional process step costs valuable time: removing the workpiece, transporting it to the measuring room, waiting for the results—and, in the worst-case scenario, reworking it even though the original clamping has already been released. We addressed this bottleneck and developed an inline solution with the MarSurf MC 510. The system is located in your machine’s tool magazine and is automatically swapped in like a regular tool. #SurfaceRoughness is measured directly on the workpiece—in accordance with DIN ISO 4288/4287, reproducibly, and fully automatically documented. 💡 This is particularly valuable in the following applications: ➡️ In aerospace or medical technology, where the automated documentation of measurement results helps ensure that demanding quality and compliance requirements are met reliably and traceably. ➡️ For large or cost-intensive workpieces that must remain clamped—because measuring directly in the machine allows for immediate reworking if necessary, without the risks associated with re-clamping. ➡️ For high-volume production, where automated roughness measurement without manual intervention reduces machine downtime and makes cost-effective 100% inspection possible in the first place. ➡️ Anywhere a high degree of automation is required—because the MarSurf MC 510 is closed-loop-ready, features an OPC UA interface, and is compatible with Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain. In the linked video, you can see the system in action on a DMG MORI machining center. What challenges do you face when performing quality inspections directly on the production floor? We look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments. 👇 #SurfaceMetrology #CNCMachining #QualityAssurance
