  • We are excited to be a strategic industrial partner in this innovative collaboration with Helmholtz Institute Jena and GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. Together, we intend to deepen the fundamental EUV research and transfer it to broad industrial applications. As our CTO, Tino Eidam, highlights: “InnoEUV enables us to translate cutting-edge EUV source concepts into robust and scalable laser systems. Our close collaboration with HI Jena and the early involvement of potential end users ensures that the technologies we develop meet future application needs in metrology and imaging.”

Science meets industry in a new collaboration 🤝 Helmholtz Institute Jena, GSI and Active Fiber Systems GmbH as the industrial partner are teaming up in the InnoEUV partnership. The project aims to advance laser-driven extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation for metrology and imaging.   “The project lays the foundation for compact, coherent EUV sources, which for the first time enable the transfer of methods and findings developed at large-scale research facilities to broad industrial application, and opens up new opportunities for EUV-based metrology and imaging within the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft / Helmholtz Association,” explains Jan Rothhardt, project lead InnoEUV, HI Jena.   More 👉 https://lnkd.in/dfeRHbrZ GSI/FAIR Innovation  #science #industry #collaboration #EUV #InnoEUV #laser © M. Our colleague Oliver Herrfurth will be on-site throughout the week and will also give a talk: ▪️Title: Ultrafast 2 µm fiber lasers for scientific and industrial applications ▪️Date: March, 04 | 4:00 PM CET 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴? For many years, 1µm laser systems have dominated ultrafast material processing. However, this wavelength is not ideal for all materials — particularly silicon and many thermoplastics, which can benefit significantly from 2µm laser sources. We have been developing scientific 2µm systems for many years. Building on this experience — combined with the strong industrial foundation of our parent company TRUMPF — we introduced a 2µm industrial-grade laser system. And we don’t just talk about it, we have already demonstrated that we can serve the semiconductor industry. If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to reach out. Oliver is happy to connect with you directly at the DPG meeting in Mainz or to schedule a 1:1 meeting at your convenience.

  • 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗯 As our team continues to grow, we recently welcomed new employees with a comprehensive tour of our laser lab—offering them a firsthand look at the cutting-edge technology and innovation that powers our work. Led by our CTO Tino Eidam, the tour covered the complete laser manufacturing process—from the role of optical fiber in development to the key differences between industrial and research lasers. Safety was paramount: participants suited up with protective gear, laser safety goggles, and learned about the critical safety protocols that protect our team every day. With plenty of time for questions and discussion, Tino transformed the two-hour experience into an engaging deep dive into laser technology. Our new team members left with not just knowledge, but genuine excitement about the innovative work happening at AFS. At AFS, we empower our team from day one—encouraging everyone to learn, explore, and actively contribute to our groundbreaking technology. Ready to become part of our growing team? We’re always looking for talented individuals who share our passion for innovation. Find our open positions here: https://lnkd.in/d5HZnesE

Together with our partners IRScope GmbH and the Institute of Applied Physics of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, we aim to produce a new class of laser systems at 2µm wavelength with enormous application potential in industry, communication, and materials processing. This new class offers unprecedented parameter ranges worldwide and, after further development, can be converted into a new product for the medical and material processing markets. As part of the programme, AFS conducts studies on the efficient amplification of pulsed laser radiation to the highest powers at a 2µm wavelength and their frequency conversion. The project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
