  • 🚢Transshipment serves as an intermediate step between the offloading of catch from fishing vessels and its final landing, and is directly linked to traceability and legality verification. The increasing frequency of transshipment activities on the high seas poses significant challenges to fisheries management and has become a routine practice in distant-water fishing operations. The transparency of high seas transshipment directly affects the accuracy of various monitoring tools, including fishing logs, observer records, vessel monitoring systems (VMS), and port inspections. Incomplete or inconsistent information can compromise the reliability of catch data, undermining key indicators such as species composition, catch volume, and spatiotemporal distribution. These fundamental data form the scientific basis for fish stock assessments and management decisions, and are therefore critical to the effectiveness and scientific integrity of sustainable fisheries management. Without effective oversight, high seas transshipment can become a blind spot that enables Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activities to evade regulation, leading to data falsification and the mixing of illegal catches, which severely undermines traceability and sustainable resource management. Additional risks also arise: IUU vessels may use transshipment to obtain supplies, allowing them to continue illegal operations for extended periods; crew members on board may be forced to work longer hours, jeopardizing their legitimate rights and interests; and high seas transshipment may become linked to other forms of organized crime, including human trafficking and the illicit trade in drugs, weapons, and wildlife. 🌊To support Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) in improving relevant rules as soon as possible, GHub has published a brief titled 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. The brief first introduces the inherent logic and development direction of transshipment rules, then reviews regulatory progress based on the practices of tuna RFMOs, and finally offers policy recommendations for consideration. 🔗Download the full text: https://lnkd.in/gwYcQ_ah 📄Read GHub Perspectives: https://lnkd.in/gedCHqRe

  • We are delighted to share that 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐛 (𝐆𝐇𝐮𝐛) was invited to attend the 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐄𝐔-𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 hosted by Hanns Seidel Foundation on 26th March in Beijing.      🔦 During the panel discussion, Yingjie Chen, Project Manager of climate and energy project at GHub shared the latest perspectives on breaking the current deadlock in climate finance. Our core recommendations included:    𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡: Moving beyond the ambition vs. Finance stalemate by recognizing that green investment is a driver of digitalization and lower social operational costs, rather than a mere cost to be negotiated.     𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞-𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: Advocating for a China-EU co-developed risk-mitigation facility to lower the cost of capital and mobilize the $1.3 trillion+ needed for a resilient transition in the Global South.    🔆 GHub sincerely appreciates 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 for convening this important dialogue. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with international partners to advance synergized climate finance mechanisms and contribute to a nature-positive and climate-resilient future. 🔗 Website: www.ghub.org

  • 🌍We are delighted to share that, Greenovation Hub (GHub) was invited to attend the 29th Annual Meeting of the #GreaterMekongSubregion (GMS) Working Group on Environment co-hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) of P.R.China and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the CCESP from 2nd- 4th Dec, in Kunming, China. This meeting focused on accelerating Biodiversity Conservation, Low-carbon Transition, and Climate Resilience in GMS through Nature-based Solutions. This year marks the fourth consecutive time GHub has been invited to attend this annual meeting, which is also notably chaired by the P.R.China.   🎙️During session 7,“Financing Pathways and Enabling Conditions for Nature-Based Solutions”, Ms. Yuchen Ma as the GHub representative presented GHub's previous work on financing for #NbS, and offered recommendations for establishing sustainable finance mechanisms for NbS. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to mobilise private actors engaged in NbS. She highlighted that a key initial challenge lies in bridging the communication gap between the two sectors. Ms. Ma also shared GHub's efforts in developing financing mechanisms for national park conservation and explored the potential for establishing an agri-food-related fund in Southeast Asian countries.   🪴GHub extends its sincere gratitude to the CCESP Secretariat for the kind invitation, which provided a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful exchanges with partners across the GMS countries and beyond. Moving forward, GHub will continue to build a solid foundation for collaboration among GMS countries and beyond, supporting efforts in biodiversity conservation, low-carbon development, and climate resilience which are aligned with the GMS Strategic Framework 2030 for Accelerating Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability (SF2030–ACAES). 📌Follow us: 🔗 Website: www.ghub.org.cn 🔗 WeChat Official Account: 星球公社 #GMS #FinancingforBiodiversity
